Hello My Dear,

Confusion Confusion Confusion! Firstly dont be worried about confusion. Confusion is a general thing among students and that is not bad. Confusions arise majorly because of tow reasons: one, because of not knowing the career options and secondly because of not knowing one's own abilities, capabilities and passion.

Considering what you have mentioned in your query, I think you are into the second type of confusion category.

I am glad that you took the right step of approaching CareerGuide.com for seeking guidance and clarification to your genuine career query.

Since you are in the second year of your graduation in commerce, thinking for the right career option at this stage is ideal. I compliment you for this!

Since you are an aspirant of civil services, I suppose that you have the passion and genuine interests towards civil service. I hope that you have not been feeling to go into civil services on the basis of some hit movies or tv serials.

My Dear, if you are so passionate about civil services that means that you should start focusing on that and should therefore start towards training to clear the civil services examinations. I would suggest you to forget about MBA and may be join a professional coaching institute which trains for aspirants of civil services examination. Joining formal classes will help you to study systematically, in a disciplined manner, get personal attention, give you some body to ask your queries, be guided by experts in the field.

I would suggest not to take the exams casually since there are lakhs who appear from all over the nation and the best only get through the exams.

Best Luck

Hi, Suprit

The following link gives you details of the syllabus for the Civil Services exam.

http://byjus.com/ias/upsc-syllabus.

You will know how to go about preparing for the same year. It should take general preparation plus one year of intense coaching and preparation to crack the Civil Services.

The optional subjects include Commerce and Accountancy, Management and Economics. Hence, a MBA(Finance) will help, if you go for the same. Your subjects chosen for  M.Com should be on these lines.

A MBA shapes you better for the group discussion, interview and General Studies. A M.Com does not hold additional value in the job market, other than for a PhD or a teaching job. A MBA also provides other job opportunities as Plan B (in case you do not make it to the Civil Services in the first attempt).

Do not give up on your Civil Services dream, and attempt it for sure. You also need to be aware of the challenges that an administrative career poses. I would advise you to take an assessment test to gauge your strengths, and then, decide on the future course of action.
