Statistics is a vast field .The various areas in which statisticians work are crime statistics, census statistics, ecological statistics, medical statistics, statistics on job seekers, film statistics, cricket statistics, market statistics, accident statistics, population statistics, election statistics, state statistics, tourism statistics etc. In all these areas statistician interpret numerical data and explain to the public what the numbers mean and how it can be beneficial. A well qualified and skilled statistician can work for public sector organizations such as planning commission, the national council for applied economic research , institute of applied manpower research, Indian council of medical research , institutions associated with socio-economic research etc. They may work individually or as part of interdisciplinary teams.An aspirant can find employment with armed forces, civil services, government banks etc. One can also join Indian Statistical Services. Statisticians can be employed as lecturers, assistant professors , research scholars or officer with various government colleges.
