Hello friend,

Now a days there are many universities which offer the course of Humanities and social sciences. Instead of prescribing a fixed set of courses, this course presents an opportunities to the student to design her or his own degree.

Students who will opt for this course in Delhi University will be admitted to the cluster Innovation Center (CIC) and will be required to take some basic courses in semesters on and eight at CIC to gain competence in core subjects such as Mathematical Awareness, Art of Communication, Innovation Management, Social Inquiry and Legal Literacy. In next semesters the students will be given freedom to choose courses to specialize i a particular stream such as journalism, Education, Historical Tourism, Counseling, Art and Design. This program emphasize on hand on projects, virtual learning, internship, and group based activities rather than relying on classroom learning.

Eligibility criteria: Minimum aggregate marks at 10+2 level are mentioned category wise;

General category: 60% in four subjects (including mathematics

OBC category: 54% in four subjects (including mathematics)

SC/ST category : Passing marks with mathematics as subject.

Students of humanities can pursue career i different fields. Also, they fit into a variety of job roles. Students of this stream have several options for higher education. They can opt for more specialized subject in their field or shift to an allied field.

Unorganised Sector

In fact students of humanities often pursue studies in more than one subject. Later, they fair well in any field they work. Even in fields of engineering and management, professionals with background in humanities and social sciences are respected. For instance, when hiring for a management role, recruiters prefer a candidate with degree in both anthropology and management studies, over candidates with only a degree in management studies.

This is because the candidate has better people skills or communication skills, or interpersonal skills and his approach to various situations is different from that of management graduates.

So, if you are really interested in humanities (or humanities and social sciences) and want to work in that field, you should go for it. But before you take this crucial step, make sure you know what kind of career you want to pursue, the path that leads to that career and whether you are willing to give is required to succeed in the field.

In the field of humanities and social sciences it is the work which speaks for you. So apart from studies you should also gain some work experience before you complete the course.

Good Luck...
