The forensic science is a field where scientists are involved in solving the crime related cases. The forensic scientists gather the clues from the crime scene and analyze in laboratory and present the report in court to prove anyone innocent or culprit. They are primarily concerned with the contact trace materials associated with crimes. This follows the truth that every contact leaves the trace which will help in catching the culprit and solve the case.



In contrast to popular perception, it is a highly scientific field, where the forensic scientist uses sophisticated techniques and tolls to gather the information. The interest of many person towards the forensic science has increased over the years primarily due the nature of job of a crime investigator shown in television serials, which also close to the reality.







Typical work related activities:

The job related activities vary much on the forensics in which any one work, it is of following types.

Chemistry: it is connected to crime against property, such as burglary and arson.

Biology: Which is connected to the people such as murder, rape, and assault

Drugs and toxicology

Within these nature of work the usual work involves are:

Chemistry: The examination of paint, some chemicals etc including fire investigation and accident reconstruction.

Biology: Testing of blood, DNA amplification, spots on cloths, hair, clothing and fibers etc.

Drugs and toxicology; testing of restricted drugs, examining tissue specimen for poison detection, and the analysis of blood and urine samples for drugs and alcohol.

However, there is degree of crossover and work related activities which is not limited to the following;

  Examining samples, such as hair, nails, skin, blood, saliva, paint and drugs in laboratories,


• 
  Application of sophisticated techniques, such as ELISA, electrophoresis, Polymerase Chain Reaction machine, electron or high power microscope, gas liquid chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography.


• 
  Attending and examining the scenes of crime.


• 
  Justify the findings during cross examination of a criminal case.


• 
  Writing detailed report for court.

As you have asked the exams and preparation of forensic science. You should have PCB in 12 class, there are many colleges / institutes and universities which offer graduation in forensic science. The selection is based upon the the marks obtained in 12, minimum marks required in general category is 60%.
