A psychometric test is specially designed to judge a candidate on his cognitive abilities and overall 
personality. It is mostly used by corporate companies during the recruitment process to evaluate the 
prospective employees to measure their aptitude on various parameters. It is generally taken online and 
thus gives apt results to the employer about the candidate’s job-related knowledge. However, it can also 
be used in schools for students ready to face the job market and thus deal with the real world problems. 
Typically, there are two parts in psychometric test- 
 
1.Aptitude- The numeracy and literacy skills test the aptitude of the students in order to judge 
their awareness and problem-solving ability. 
2.Behavior or Personality profiling- Highlighting the personality traits of the test taker, this section 
contains leadership tests, motivation tests, and situational judgment test. 
 
 
 
Why Psychometric Test?  
 
A child’s brain is the most tender and delicate for it can be easily molded and manipulated in any form. It 
is always said what you infuse in growing days, remains a part of a child forever.  
However, as one comes near to passing the school, they should take the career test in order to choose 
their path and direction for future endeavors. It also helps them evaluate their own skills and knowledge 
to a level where they can use it with maximum output.  
 
On the other front, the Psychometric test not only challenges the candidate in terms of aptitude 
questions but the time constraints also add as another hurdle in the process which in turn bring out the 
best in limited time out of the students. However, Psychometric tests are also held by organizations 
during the recruitment process.  
 
There are two reasons for organizing the psychometric test for job seeking candidates. Firstly, it reduces 
the HR cost enduring to the company as it reduces the role of human resource personnel. And secondly, 
it gives a better idea of the mindset of the candidate, helping to make a better decision and thus 
reducing the employee turnover. According to recent market research, companies have optimized their 
process strictly with psychometric tests in order to find the right skills in the right candidate and save a 
substantial amount in the process.  
 
 In a regular interview process, which includes, the first introduction round, the second interview round 
and the final assessment day, the psychometric test can be taken at any level. Usually, it is held in the 
initial stages, either after or alongside the first interview round. Depending on the results of this test, the 
final assessment day exercise for the candidates are organized, and the decision of offering the 
employment letter is taken.  
 
 How does it Work?  
 As discussed earlier, it is basically based on two terms- aptitude or ability and behavior or personality 
profiling. The questions in the test are designed in such form, be it quantitative, situational or to test the 
knowledge, they bring out the basic nature of the individual and thus gives an analysis of the intellect 
side of the person. It shows, what influence, moves or affects the person the most in various conditions 
and circumstances. The quantitative and application based questions push the reasoning side of a 
person, whereas, the situation based question gives a rational meaning to the answers. Candidates 
taking the test need to answer in forms like- how will they react to a particular scene or what will be 
their take on any problem. Therefore, the analysis is based on the similar lines.    
 
What does the Test results mean?  
Although depending on the test maker, usually the test is about 15 to 30 minutes long. It gives a detailed 
breakdown of the various traits of the individual.  It explains what nature or type of job will suit the 
candidate and where their skills will bloom out the best. It gives an idea about the personality group you 
fall under, and thus the skill sets goals and objectives one should possess in the long run.  
As the results give a clear structure of your mindset and other traits, it makes our job easier to choose a 
career path in the same direction which might suit us. It helps us decide on two parameters- our own 
interest and according to our intellect.   
 
Knowing one’s positive and strong points is always a good thing. We all want to know what suits us best 
and where will we excel our best. Therefore, these tests help us in the same manner as they bring out 
our both sides- good and bad. Totally depending on the analytics of the same, it suggests various career 
prospects one can take up. Psychometric tests should be taken with utter precision and concentration 
and with the conviction of one’s knowledge. However, one should be rational and totally concision of 
taking a decision based on an online test. It is usually advised to be taken for the school students 
hanging in the middle with no career goals or with job seekers who have no direction to take their career 
towards
