Hi Sweety,

Intersting question, though I am pretty sure you know the answer too.

Math in Graphic designing is not like how the Financial gurus, like someone into Financial management or accounting or a banker would deal with.

Here Math would be completely basic, like the font size, image calculations etc.

Lucky you, you have everything going technical. So just command the computer, your works done.
In Graphic Designing, calulations are done in areas pertaining to:

  • Square Footage
  • resolution
  • dimensions
  • product labeling
  • decals
  • wraps
  • geometry for sign curves, abstract shapes
  • box design
  • layout positioning (especially with logos that require certain spacing specs)
  • assembly building (catalogs, signs, displays, quantities, etc)

Please note that Designing is a form of ART, and am sure while drawing in school, one definitely have made use of the foot ruler and other geometrical shapes, but were they really Math???

Hope I have answered your query.

Wish you good luck..........

Dear Aspirant,

Good question indeed.

I would say not exactly mathematics, but definitely geometry knowledge will help in graphic designing.

Definitely basic mathematics about cms, inches, graphs, is required.

Best wishes
