Hi,It is true that the passing rate in Civil cervices is high for students who have opted for Psychology. But it will not be suggested to go for Psychology considering only these factors.Remember that even thought the passing rate of students who have opted for Psychology is high but still the overall passing rate is very low. So there are also chances that you might not qualify the exam. In that cases if you do not like the course or have opted it just thinking that it would be easy for you to understand then in that cases it will be very difficult for you to stay in that profession.I would suggest you to choose a course that is of interest to you. If you like the subject or course you will enjoy studying it, and if you enjoy studying it then it will not be difficult for you to give the exam in the same. Later on if by any chance you are not able to crack the exam then you can even make career in the same. Here it is very necessary to understand that Civil services is a very tough exam an not many people qualify it so your choice of subject should not depend on which subject has higher passing rate but on what subject is of your interest.Best Wishes!
Hi There,
I extremely like your decision to pursue IAS
I am sure you are very well aware that Civil Service examination as well as post is all about How well one can reason keeping all facts in hand, at the same time being diplomatic.
Just because the number of Psychology students appear for the exam, does it means that people from other backgrounds do not qualify. The last IAS officer, was from the engineering background. And engineering does not fall or has any link with Psychology.
Please note that the number of students from Psychology or rather I say from Humanities background is highre, since Humanities is a field that requires reasoning a little higher than other streams.
I agree with the above counselor, that please do choose a subject that you like and are very well at.
At the same time, though in-depth knowledge about a subject is important, we cannot deny the fact that READING and GENERAL AWARENESS is extremely important.
So right from now and till the end, you would have to continue with reading and being able to express yourself with your own analysis and develop diplomatic way of communicating.
Hope this helps. Wish you good luck...........
