Hi There,
Interesting to note, that you are looking for a career in Civil Services and that too IAS.But you have a long way to go.Since students who are a Graduate ( any stream) can only opt for Civil Service exams.
But mind you, this does not mean that you cannot prepare.Civil services is a very different and a unique kind of examination, focusing on your reasoning as well as your creative aspect. So Reading is a must. Read on any topic you can lay your hands on, whether politics or medicine to environment or philosophy. But just reading will not help, you need to be witty in putting your point across, so communication is important too.
Coming back to your earlier question.Since you will be clearing 12th, in the commerce stream, you can further it up with either B.Com or can opt for the self financing courses like BAF ( Bachelors in Accounting and Finance) or BBI ( Bachelors in Banking and Insurance). The two self financed courses are more practical oriented, so you would be exposed towards internship and projects that make you eligible to begin working immediately after you earn your degree.
Other options includes, computers or B.Sc IT ( only if you have Math as a subject), or BCA program. The only difference between B.Sc IT and BCA involves, BCA is a mix of theory and Practicals, and includes m,ore of programming and software teaching.
Since you are looking out for IAS in the future, and Civil service jobs includes knowing LAWS and regulations as well as focuses on History and Political issues. They may need knowledge related to history and political sciences too.
Though if they are not your favourite subject, then please do not opt for these subjects, but definitely you need some knowledge on the past Indian History, which you can get by being an avid reader.
Other options post 12th includes:
Economics Graduation Mass-Media ( BMM) Management Studies (BMS / BBA)Architecture ( Math as a subject as well as entrance exam needs to be cleared) Designing ( Entrance exam need to be cleared) Hotel management ( Entrance exam needs to be cleared).
I have just mentioned few steam you could opt for.In-case you get confused, please do write back, making a choice as to which particular field you would like me to elaborate on.But do choose a stream based on your future option of Civil Services.
Wish you all the very best.............
