You, have to Physics, Chemistry and Biology apart from English as your subjects for your 11th and 12th classes.
Further you need to be practising the MCQs and other test papers based on various entrance exams conducted throughout the country

. As an addition you coould join a Coaching Institute for PMT( Pre Medical Test) preparations or opt for private tuitions.

Dear aspirant,

First of all congratulations on passing your X exams. For a career in medicine,
1. You have to enrol for a pure Science group in 11th and 12th level. This way you will be studying Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology.
2. Otherwise, enrol in a PCMB group where you will be studying Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology.

Completing your 12th from either of these two groups,
1. You will need to appear for All India medical entrance test or state level entrance test to apply for either MBBS or BDS.
Sitting for these national/ state level competitive exams is mandatory if you would want to study at national or state owned Universities.
2. Alternatively, if your choice is to study at a private university, you should also sit for their competitive exams. Please be informed that most deemed universities will still ask for your All India medical test score even though they have a conventional entrance exam in principle at their institution.

If you choose the first option, the pure science group in your HSC exams; you will have the options to apply for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS in India.
Suppose if you choose PCMB group, as you will be studying Math as well as part of this group, you can apply for the above said degrees as well as B.Sc or B.E/ B.Tech in Science degrees such as Biotechnology, Bio informatics, Bio medical engineering, Environmental engineering, Food science and many others.

Good luck.

Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for writing to us!

I am very happy that you are planning your career right from 10th class. Early career planning is always good.

If you want to pursue medical profession then you need to take up science stream with PCB option for 11&12. For medical science (MBBS or BDS) study, students are expected to score 9O+.

Medical enyrance: After good score 12th, need to clarify medical entrance test.

Choose medical line: you have choice either to pursue MBBS or BDS. Apart from these, you can pursue BAMS, BHMS, BPT (physiotherapy), Occupational therapy, speech therapy etc. where you don't need to clarify medical entrance test.

Scope for medical professionals:
Medical professionals are always in demand. In current scenario, we need more qualified medical professionals and there is a great demand for specialists (MD). Masters qualification adds more value to your MBBS/BDS qualification. You can either do MD or Masters in Public Health (MPH) as per your career goal.

Scope of medical professional: After MBBS or BDS you can work as follow:

Service as medical practitioner: you can work at private or govt hospitals/ clinics as a doctor.

Private practice:you can start your own private practice.

Teacher at medical college: you can work as a tutor, assistant professor at medical college.

Public Health professional: To become public health professional, you can do two years course, Masters of Public Health from reputed institutions. After this course, you can work with UN agencies, Govt as public health professional on various health programs.

In nutshell, medical science has very good scope and it requires lot of hard work to get admission in medical course.

Hope this is helpful. If you have any query, feel free to write back.

Wish you best wishes for bright future,
Apurva kumar Pandya, PhD
