Dear Friend

Thank you very much for contacting careerguide.com your regime is very impressive and inspiring for us that must be supported at any cost. I am impressed with your self motivation which is very rare among the aspirants many of us are concerned about materialistic world and want to grab such type of job where environment is least approachable. So I must congratulate you as a future environmentalist in India --much needed.

Now let us discuss the pathway to follow for your academic career only then you can dream your live project. I do not know your present status of education where you stand? Anyway let me start from threshold which is initiated at school level and then basic aptitude which is already there with you as individual. Aptitude is the log phase which provides the base for further exponential growth of any career which has to be sustained with the continuous effort and modern thoughts. Your modern vision regarding the green world is much needed worldwide and entire population is looking for a help where a decimal percentage like you play a role of whistle-blower.

Let us discuss the thematic world which must be defined by your academic knowledge. After college with B.Sc/BE/BTech in Forestry, environmental sciences, Agri-Sciences, Biology, Biotechnology, or any other technology you have to be specialized in a particular are of interest like-forestry, water, soil, air, domestic pollution, etc. You will realize them after reaching the stage of higher studies. At this time you have to stick to the fundamental study and read everything in justified manner only then you can confine your interest at higher level.

After passing graduation explore the master degree in the most specific way where various University like JNU, DU, and other foreign University offers courses for environmental studies.

To claim the environmentalist job it is not necessary that you obtain degree at higher level rather your best practices as a socialists, member of environmental acts, part of trust or NGOs can bring you to the prestigious world.

Once you are inducted into this drive then develop your own formula which must be simple, unique and sustainable eventually common man will be your followers. Like Medha Patekar, Maneka Gandhi are known as environmentalist and being respected as Institutions.

Good luck !

Dear aspirant

Unorganised Sector
Thank you for approaching counsellors at CareerGuide.com. I am very much impressed with your ambition concerning environment. Not many students have this concern for the society and i am glad that there are students thinking of a career for the betterment of the society as well. The first thing that comes to my mind is studying Environmental biotechnology. You will study this as part of a biotech degree. there are universities that also offer environmental biotechnology as a major part of the degree and you can study that. Studying this degree you can concentrate on any one aspect of environment. Either you could conserve land, air, water, soil in the environment or you can also study about conserving special species on the earth and these could be plants or animals. Some biotech degree also offers concentration in ocean biotechnology, concentrating on ocean species and pollution. As a biotechnologist you will study how to preserve under water species, bio diversity and as well reduce pollution under ocean. Biotechnology degree is vast and it varies from studying pharma, antibiotics to species and environment conservation. Therefore i highly advice you to select that college that particularly offers environmental biotechnology subject as part of the degree.

To study environemntal biotechnology, in India as i said it is part of the biotechnology degree at either BSc level or BTech level. If you choose to study abroad, there are plenty of universities that offer straight degree on BSc environmental biotechnology itself. At a bachelors level in my opinion, it is highly sufficient to study in India itself. Therefore you should choose the set of universities that also have a research lab for environmental biotechnology in India to do your BSc or BTech.

To be eligible to study BSc Biotechnology with environmental biotechnology, it is mandatory to study Physics, chemistry and biology at 12th level and science until 10th class. If you choose to study BTech biotechnology then it is mandatory to study Maths, physics, chemistry and biology until 12th level. For an engineering degree please dont forget that maths is mandatory at 12th. Some of the reputed universities offering this course are Bharathi dasan university Coimbatore in tamil nadu, anna university chennai, Sastra university tanjur tamil nadu, VIT Vellore, SRM university chennai, Lovely professional university phagwara and IIT Kharagpur.

All the best.

Hello

Thank you for choosing Mera career guide and writing to us. It is inspiring to see your commitment for our environment and yes, be glad that you have all the opportunities to pursue this dream career. Before that may I know in what class are you currently studying? Are you at 10th or 12th level now? For being ann environmentalist in future you have to choose either of the three options.

Unorganised Sector

1. BSc Environmental science
You can choose to study BSc Environmental science degree and please be informed that this is a science degree and not an engineering degree. It is a three year program that most of the arts and science college offers. To study this degree, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are mandatory at 12th level. Maths is not mandatory at 12th level although studying maths until 10th level is required. Top colleges offering BSc Environmental science are: University of Pune, University of Delhi, University of Mumbai, Awadh university and Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi.

You can choose to study BE/ BTech Environmental engineering degree after 12th level and yes, this is a 100% engineering degree and it runs for four years when studied full time. To be eligible to apply for this engineering degree, studying maths until 10th is mandatory plus Physics, chemistry, biology and maths are mandatory until 12th level. Some colleges only demand physics and maths at required subjects at 12th level although most of the colleges demand all the four subjects mentioned above. Colleges offering this engineering degree are here: Aligarh Muslim university, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, Delhi college of Engineering, Anna University Guindy Chennai, Tamilnadu agricultural college, Rajasthan University and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

3. BE/ BTech Civil engineering with environmental engineering specialisation
This is one of the nicest option if you have not studied biology in 11th and 12th level. If you studied all subjects except biology, then you can consider studying BE/ BTech Civil engineering and without forgetting take environmental engineering as your main specialisation. Lots of students take this route and after BTech you can study a fully fledged MTech Environmental engineering and technology degree. Almost all colleges across India offers Civil engineering with environmental engineering specialisation and you can choose to study where ever you like.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Dear friend, thank you for your question. Your question is related to present day problem. We all know that our environment is degrading day by day, but we just discuss and do nothing. In this regard, I would like to appreciate you for your concern to the environment and you wish to make your career in environmental science.

To pursue career in environmental science, you have to study, 10+2 in biology, physics and chemistry. The your graduation should be in environmental science (BSc or BTech),, if you cannot make it, then you can pursue your graduation in botany, biotechnology, microbiology, forestry or agricultural field. After graduation you have to do post graduation in relevant subject; which could be related to environmental science or environment management.

You can join any governmental organization such as colleges, institute or university. Here you can make an entry as lecturer, assistant professor or assistant scientist. But keeping in view the present day job scenario, the job in governmental sector is easy for those persons who have a doctoral degree.

You should pursue your doctoral degree and conduct research on environmental aspects. Here I would like to give my example. I have done MSc and PhD in Microbiology. During my masters degree program, my research work was on methanogenic bacteria and during PhD program, the research work was on plant-microbe-interaction. In later part of my career, I developed interest in environment. To fulfill my desire to work on environmental aspects, I conducted research on environmental microbiology and biotechnology. I have also guided many student, who worked on environmental aspects and I have published many research papers on it.

The crux of these lines is that, if you pursue your career in biology (in case you cannot make in Environmental Science) then during higher studies, you may work on environmental aspects and become and environmental scientist.

After proper academic qualification in environmental science, you may join, as academician or researcher, using this platform, you may spread the awareness among people about environment. You may also join the Pollution Control Board, here you have authority to check the pollution level in rivers, ponds, Stearns. You will be having the authority to fine the polluting units.

As an Environmental Scientist or Officer, you will have authority to preserve the environment. You may join as Forest Officer also to prevent or control the forest illegal cuttings and degradation.

Good Luck to your dream and career.
