Hello

Thank you for contacting counsellors at Mera career guide and I am very happy to solve your query today. I see you are currently doing your Engineering and aspire a government career like the railways. Yes, you can definitely pursue a railway career but you are required to write their entrance exam. Before I proceed further, please allow me to introduce myself. I am Gomathi and I have been counselling students from all walks of life since 23 years. Be assured you are talking to a counselling expert.

First of all I want to tell you that you are aspiring student with full of ambitions and expectations. Unless you are intelligent you wont think of your future. As you are responsible in nature, you have thought about your career plan and also planned to approach counsellors at Mera career guide. This responsibility will help you a long way if you are always keen regarding your future. Another thing I want to advice you is dont think you are not bright or intelligent enough. You are studying an Engineering degree already. It is a professional course and definitely if you are not bright, you cant be selected on the course and you cant be studying right now. So dont think that only top scores can work in hi tech industries. Even average scorers get placed at hi tech industries. But what really helps you to achieve is, how you manage and develop yourself after you start working in a company. You need a competing attitude meaning you should always try to update your current knowledge with latest skills and development and be leading among your peers at work.

There is no harm to apply for railway exam. You should check the website www.railwayrecruitment.co.in for their exam date in 2014. As you are in 3rd year now, you should write your exam in final year of your BEng degree, that is in 2015. keep following that website to know the exam date for 2015 and how to apply and when to apply. Prepare well for the exam and appear and get good results.

One thing I personally want to advice you. As said, no harm for applying to railway job. But I seriously dont want you to sit waiting for a railway job for a long time. You can apply for railway job every year. So I seriously advice you to start considering work options outside like with software companies. Start working and secure you financially. Mean while do your railway exam too. Once they offer you a railway job, you can quit your present work and join railways.

Please write back if needed further assistance. ALl the best.
