Hello

I am glad to see you are a student of BA History. I am a History graduate and I am excited to hear your similar background and interests. I am Gomathi and I have been the Head of a Counselling group in Bangalore. Before guiding you further may I ask you when did you graduate? If you graduated years before, what have you been doing since then? Did you work and if yes where did you work? If you are a recent graduate then consider the following options.

Are you interested in studying further? See if you would like to study an MA in India for two years. Completing an MA you can probably work asa Lecturer in colleges or you can even study further like a PhD. If you want to study MA, choose studying MA History or MA Archaeology. Archaeology is an interesting subject and it has vast potential in India considering the long and old civilization route we come from. You can study MA in these subjects. But if you dont want to study History any more, you can also choose something like I did. After my BA History I chose to study MA Guidance and counselling. This field is interesting and challenging too. But it has so much responsibilities on your shoulder as you are guiding students and recent graduates about their education and career, which actually will lead them to a good life. It all depends on where your interest is.

If you are still happy to study History, you can choose MA History. In your final year of MA, write NET exam and be qualified for teaching at colleges in India. This will get you a teaching job as soon as you graduate with your MA degree. You can also consider doing a PhD. For that along with NET, you should be UGC-JRF qualified. With a JRF, you can do PhD at govt institutions and this will qualify you for a monthly stipend. You can get any where from Rs.12000 to Rs. 15000 every month until you complete your PhD. You can also work part time at schools and colleges while doing your PhD to supplement your income. You have many options if you choose to stick to History line.

Alternatively if you choose to move to some other career like 'Guidance and counselling' I said, you can do an MA in this subject. In your final year of this MA, you will have a project that requires you to practice under an expert. It should be for 6 months and you get a certificate for that. With that internship experience and MA degree, you can work as Counsellors at schools, colleges and Universities. If you are willing to study this MA, it has many fields like Family counselling, education counselling, Marriage counselling, Child counselling, Patient counselling, Adult counselling, Career counselling. These subjects will be covered in your MA degree and you can choose which you like the most and be a counsellor in that subject.

All the very best. Write to me of you want further help. I will be pleased to help you. Good luck.
