UPSC exams stands for Union Public Service Commission. This is a national level exam which incudes 24 services under state and central government of India. The main purpose of this examination is to select deserving candidates for various responsible posts under state and central government. The UPSC Examination started from the year 1922. The UPSC examination is conducted in three phases, which includes the preliminary phase, The mains phase and the last phase is the interview which is also referred to as personality round. 

The Preliminary Examination is an objective type test which consists of two objective papers referred to as the General Studies Paper-1 and the General Studies Paper-2. The Preliminary examination is also known as Civil Service Aptitude test or CSAT.  In the Preliminary examination there are total of 200 MCQ questions. In Preliminary examination the subjects include History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, General Science, Environmental Science and Sociology.

There is negative marking in the pattern of correction. The preliminary examination is more of an examination for elimination than for selection. Only if candidates pass the preliminary examination they get the chance to appear for the mains. In the final calculation of total marks the marks scored in the preliminary phase of the examination is not calculated. This is only to sort the total number of students who will appear for the mains examination

The Mains Examination

The second phase of UPSC examination is the Mains Examination. The Mains exams consists of nine conventional or essay type papers. Among the nine papers two papers are qualifying and the marks of rest seven papers are counted for further qualification to the interview round. The final phase of UPSC examination in the interview or the personality test. In this phase students meets with the examiners face to face and they are questioned by them to judge them on their capability and personality.

The UPSC Examination in the most difficult competitive examination in India. In order to crack the UPSC examination in a single attempt students need two whole years of preparation. One year before the preliminary phase and one year from the preliminary phase to the interview round. Question paper of UPSC examination is made only in Hindi and English. Whereas Candidates can answer the paper in any one of the schedule languages in India.

 In UPSC Examinations there are even restrictions regarding the number of attempts. General Candidates can appear for the examination for 6 times till he or she attains 32 years. OBC candidates can appear for examination for 9 times whereas for Scheduled caste and scheduled tribes there are no such restrictions on attempts. This is a total of 32 hours of examination from the preliminary to the interview phase. Results for the preliminary examination is declared by middle of August and the final result is declared by month of May in the following year.

Upsc Exam Pattern 1 Scaled

 In order to sit for UPSC examination, the candidate should be a citizen of India and the educational qualification required for the candidate is that he or she should be a graduate from a central or state university. The candidate before appearing for UPSC examination should have attained 21 years of age. The candidate can keep trying with the examination till he or she attains 32 years of age.
