Dear aspirant

You have posted a wonderful question. To give my answer straight away, there is absolutely no scope or relevance for an astronomer to study an MBA degree. An astronomer is someone who comes from an authentic science background and has no relation to do business or management degree any time in his career. In my career i have talked to many students and professionals and i dont know why, almost every candidate i meet to counsel think MBA as a default destiny option for students from any background. MBA is only needed for certain degrees and it can also be considered as a leadership link subject after studying certain degrees but there is no point in studying an MBA degree after studying certain degrees.

After studying or working in degrees/ career like an MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, Astronomy, BDS, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Chemist, Biologist, Zoologist, Physicist, Mathematician or Statistician, there is no point in doing an MBA. Because almost all of these subjects indicated above are pure science related and people dont often dont require studying a business management degree after these subjects as there is no relevance in handling or managing people in large. These subjects are usually technician or skill based role and not people management role. Therefore as there is no relevance for leadership role, an MBA is not required to study.

Subjects that are considerable for doing an MBA are Architecture, interior designing, fashion designing, any engineering discipline, biotechnology, bio pharmacy, bachelor of business administration, economics, commerce, public administration, politics, English, translation, accounts, finance, foreign languages, journalism, mass media, communications are the subjects that go well with a MBA higher degree. As these subjects require people to build a team, coordinate, put team building, team work, require managing people, handling both internal and external customers, and managing clients. Therefore studying an MBA degree will be great for each of these streams but not for any other streams that i mentioned in the above paragraph.

To also make it clear, studying an MBA will help where there are manager, senior manager positions. In case of astronomy, you will not have designations as manager or senior manager instead you will have physicist, astonomist as your designation name. Government jobs will also have level difference in such science oriented jobs and therefore studying an MBA degree is of no use for an astronomer. I have seen many people studying an MBA thinking that is the default destination and please do not think so. An MBA is great only when it adds some meaning to the first degree and existing work experience and in this situation studying an MBA for an astronomer is of no use. All the best.
