To start with, yes you have to be good at your interpersonal skills in order to become a Chef. Here are the reasons why...

1. You have to be sellable. Once you become a Chef, you need to work with other Chefs, staff members, clients etc. You need to deal with them on a daily basis. If you do not have good people skills, you will not grow beyond a particular point in this career.

2. After a certain experience you are required to train and guide the new Chefs. In this situation you leadership and teaching skills become very important. How you manage and lead your team members determines how well you are contributing to your work.

3. The art of diplomacy is one of the most essential things in a Chef's role. There will be certain situations in your career when you have to deal politely and diplomatically. These skills come with good experience and dealing with a number of people.

4. As a Chef you are also involved in the hiring and firing process of new Chefs. This skill requires great deal of expertise in working with other professionals. You get to involved in the discussions and decide upon various talent acquisition related issues. The interpersonal skills become really imortant in this case.

5. Your ability to listen to others will give you a lot of credibility among your staff members. If your junior chef is having some personal problems at home, you cannot just walk away from it. You need to empathize with them. These small things build trust and that leads to better results.

6. Business sense is a must thing to have in today's chefs. And no business is done without having some excellent people skills.

7. Having good interpersonal skills adds to the productivity of the workplace. You cannot do all the things yourself. You will have to take the help of others in one way or the other. You should know the art of taking help from others so that you can finish things in time.

That's how good interpersonal skills are really required for any Chef.
