Law is one of the most reputed degrees all over the world. A lawyer is a person to who people look forward to getting justice. To get a professional degree in law, a lawyer needs to get himself registered under the BAR. Studying law in countries like America and U.K is every potential lawyer’s dream. But to pursue this dream one has to pass several tests and challenges that come its way. Getting admission in law schools has become extremely difficult nowadays because of increasing competition among various students. Some of the major law schools in America are as follows:

Harvard Law School:

 Established in 1817, Harvard is the oldest and one of the most reputed Law Schools in the United States. It has a record of passing 95% of its students approximately through the BAR exam. It has the largest academic law library in the world. The total cost of attending the school is $82000 approx. (including tuition fees and living expenses). A total of 470 courses is offered by the University. It also offers Joint degree programs in Law and Business, Law, and Government, etc. Admission to various programs is on the basis of LSAT’s (Law School Admission Test). A candidate should have completed his 12th grade to apply to the Bachelor’s program and a graduate degree from a Master’s program.

Florida State University College of Law:

It was established in 1966 and has got 17th overall rank in Environmental Law. It is one of the best Colleges in America for job placement. It has been rated amongst the top Law Schools in the country. Admission preference is given to those candidates whose credentials indicate greatest academic success. For JD and Juris Master Admissions, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree prior to the commencement of fall classes. For all any other type of information, students can check the official website of the University. Admission of mainly all courses depends on the LSAT score of the student.

Princeton University:

It was founded in 1746 and is one of the top-ranked Universities of the country. It is a private Ivy League University in New Jersey. The campus is spread over 500 acres of land is one amongst the most beautiful campuses in America. The students must give their IELTS, TOEFL, etc. score along with their SAT subject tests score (2 preferably).  The students need to fill an online application form to seek admission in the University. An interview would be conducted after seeing all the required admission documents and the selected candidates would be granted admission.

Yale University:

Columbia University: 

This is a private Ivy League Research University in New York which was established in 1754. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities of all times. It has 299 acres of land with itself. This University places emphasis on skills and talents that are essential for academic excellence and intellectual engagement. Applicants are evaluated on many fronts such as self-discipline and motivation. To be eligible for the L.L.M program, applicants must hold a first degree in law. If a candidate has a master’s degree in law but an undergraduate degree in some other course, then too he does not suffice the eligibility criteria. Also, candidates who have earned their law degree through correspondence or Diploma are not eligible for admission. Preference is given to those candidates who have 1- year work experience after their first law degree.

Stanford University:

Founded in 1891, this private research University is spread across 8180 acres of land which is one amongst the largest University campuses in America. To study in this highly recognized Ivy League University, students come from across the world to study various courses. To get admission in the JD program of the University, the applicant’s intellectual ability and aptitude is tested and the overall diversity of the class admitted in seen. Aptitude ensures that the potential lawyer has a way of handling certain situations with tact, concepts, perceptions and his way with words. The second criterion contemplates that diversity will improve the quality of education at the law school.

New York University:

To be eligible for the L.L.M course of this University, the student must hold a first degree in law (JD or LLB) from a law school that is recognized by the American Bar Association or a bachelor’s degree from a non-US law school which is approved by the foreign equivalent. Strong academic and professional recommendations go a long way to get admission in this University. Evidence of any professional accomplishment is taken into consideration. To make through the JD program of the University, the graduates must have attained an average grade point of at least 3.50.Candidates with work experience of at least 1 year are strongly preferred.

 

Therefore, to get admission into these Ivy League Universities is not an easy task. One needs to have continuous encouragement, support and of course the requisite resources to get into these Universities. A good LSAT score and work experience would help a lot to get admission in such Institutions.
