Hospital Management is an exquisite course chosen by very few enthusiasts who love the art of hospitality. As the name suggests, the course involves learning how to run a hotel or a restaurant, providing the knowledge of the organization, coordination, planning, staffing, evaluating and controlling of health services. One does not require any special subject expertise in mathematics or science like other courses to go for a course in this field. The boom in this sphere has equally led to opening up of opportunities for the students wanting to take it up as a career. Like any other course, hospital management teaches the basics and then one has to choose a specialization in one of its stream. No matter which stream you choose the importance of hospitality and moreover, professionals of hospitality can never decrease. Most of the institutes provide a basic internship on completion of the graduation course with one of the hotel chains. However, in case an internship is not provided, gaining one with a small organization is not a difficult task. The internship period makes gives you a first-hand on-the-job experience and mainly trains to be ready to handle a real time job. The total time period of an internship is also an important factor to consider. An internship should be at least of 3-4 months as it gives you an ample time to absorb the job environment, learn from the mistakes and thus apply the learning next time.

Once the training on the internship is over, the time to enter the real world and job market comes into the picture. As the training on internship helps, it gives an upper hand above the other graduates who search for a job directly after graduation. Currently, about 2.40 million people work in the hotel business including catering and allied industry. And as the trend goes, the number is gonna increase. However, the remunerations in this industry depend on certain factors like college ranking, work experience, skills and ability a candidate portrays to possess and more.

When it comes to the demand and supply in the hospital management industry, the demand for professional and trained staff is always higher than the supply. This is due to the high boost in the tourism of India. The hotel industry’s graph to has seen a high soaring peak in the recent times. However, when it comes to international focus, the standards followed are more or less in the colleges. Therefore, students have the equal scope of getting placed with international hotel chains like Ramada, Hyatt, Taj, JW Marriott and similar. But the packages offered by these are always higher and with better incentives for various positions.

Another aspect that defines the placement is the specialization you choose. Following is the list of positions that one can acquire while working in the hotel industry:

  • General Manager: Responsible for all operations in a hotel
  • Resident Manager: To be available at just a call away
  • Executive Housekeeper: to ensure cleanliness in the hotel
  • Front Office Manager: To manage the Front desk
  • Convention service manager: To coordinate with clients and offering hotel services like conventions, meetings, seminars.
