Hello,

I am sure you would have a deep study before you made a call to let your child opt Robotics as his career. Still I would like to help you understand the various areas where and how robotics engineer work. Initially there are 2 divisions where they are divided one is where all the plan and functionalities regarding a robot is planned and the second is where the final implementation of the plan is carried away. There is also one another area where further development is carried along with experiments.
I would suggest you to let him complete his normal 12th which will help him understand his math and physics more clearly. as he appears his 12th put him in any of the B. Tech course with specialization in electrical engineering so that he understands the basic dimensions and practicalities of wiring and systems. As he completes that he will be through with all his understanding regarding the patterns and applications of robotics.

As he has completed that let him do M. Tech in Robotics. which will guide him to be at a good level to operate robots.

As I understand he should do a B. Tech in Mechatronics which is the closest to robotics. Unfortunately none of the IIT's till date provide this course. But there are other good universities that provide this course.
Some of them are as follows:
Bharat University- Tamil Nadu
Sardar Patel University- Gujarat
Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (CBIT)- A.P.
SRM University- Chennai,
SRM University- Tamil Nadu

For his masters it is better preferred that he opts for a International University to get a good hand on the course and practical implementations.

Some Indian institutes that provide M Tech in robotics:
1) IIT Kanpur
2) Jadavpur Uni in kolkata
3) University college of Hyderabad
4) Birla Institute of technology and science- Pilani
5) Thapar Institute of Engineering and technology- Patiala

Some Institutes abroad:
1) Harvard University
2) Stanford University
3) Kings College
4) Indiana University
5) University of west florida

Best of luck.
