Hello Raghav,
CAT, and other competitive exams test the students reasoning capacity in all areas and similarly in the area of quantitative reasoning too.
So if you understand basic Math and its concepts, it would be easier for you to crack CAT.
If you are in touch with the subject it keeps your reasoning capacity active. And hence if you opt for Math it would be good, but it is not compulsory.
Please note, just as a word of caution, apart from Quantitative, you need to have strong vocabulary and other reasoning capacity to crack CAT.
