As a Business Analyst one must possess the following personal and professional skills in order to succeed in this career:

  • You need to have excellent communication skills so that you can communicate your ideas well to other people. This is an important skill and takes time to develop.
  • You need to have the right technical skills. The technical skills involve the understanding of the computer applications, expertise in various tools and technologies and the various methodologies that a company employs.


  • The analytical skills have to be of top quality. How well can one analyze the business case, data and information determines their value in this profession.
  • The problem solving skill is again an important criteria to become a Business Analyst. This skill again takes a lot of time to develop. One must regularly practice to build that.


  • As a Business Analyst you need to have decision making skills. Most of the times you will take the decision based on facts and figures but there will be times when you will have to come to conclusion without much evidence or facts and figures.
  • As a business analyst you will have to manage resources as well. This field requires understanding of the management practices as well. If you are working in a management consulting firm, then it becomes even more crucial.
  • Business Analysts also need to have extraordinary negotiation and persuasion skills. They have to interact with the clients quite often and these skills will be quite important in finalizing a business deal.
