College life is a new experience to all, it opens a new dimension that nobody taught us how to deal with. There are umpteen questions which a fresher might not even know that s/he needs a manual to! Have you recently been accepted to a college and wondering what to do next, whom to befriend and how to go about college life efficiently while simultaneously living your best life? This article aims at answering all your conundrums.

6 Things you should most definitely do in your college life:

Choose your friends wisely:

Initial years in college are tough, you have a hard time figuring out who to hang out with, which elective to choose, what to do and where to go. These things are manageable as long as you have good company surrounding you. One needs to be very careful when they are choosing their friends as it could invite good or bad experiences. Don’t be an entourage to somebody, have strong opinions and stand to them, don’t get influenced by others and do what’s right for you. Know your interests, goals, hobbies and passion, and subsequently make friends with slightly similar interests so that you all have similar things to do together while also minimizing conflict of interest. Good friends make for good college life!

Participate smartly:

It is a must to participate in college activities such as joining a book club, drama society, debating society, etc. College Societies give our hobbies and passions a chance to refine and better ourselves for a new world out there. Also, you make new friends from different departments and you get to create more memories and share new experiences simultaneously.

Volunteer in College Fests:

College Fests provide you with an eventful joyride where you get to eat good food, play games, shop from stalls, attend a concert at night, etc. When you volunteer in a Fest, you get to work at stalls which brings you a worldly experience of how to handle finances, how to deal with people politely, boosts your confidence and gives you more time to spend with your friends. Here’s a tip- you shouldn’t participate in volunteering on all days of the fest because while you are working, you might miss out on a few things that will make you regret it for life!

Bunking Classes:

Once in a while, it’s good to try out new things but be cautious to not get used to it. Bunking classes sometimes might pose to be a wonderful experience for some. You can go out for a lunch to café, for bowling, watch a movie, stroll around historical monuments, shopping in Sarojini Nagar, etc. You might think that bunking classes will make you a bad student. But that’s not it! You most certainly should try out new adventures in college life, you have all your life left to be disciplined.

Don’t be a nerd:

Being studious is not unbecoming, but you unequivocally must not force it onto other people. When a teacher cancels a class, go out in the cafeteria and chat with your friends while sipping on cold coffee instead of going to other teachers and asking for extra classes. Sure you might have your doubts, but forcing an extra class on your fellow batchmates is definitely unbecoming. You can take up your doubts with your professor in a free slot but don’t miss out on the unexpected joys in life. Having chai at tea stalls outside the college, eating Maggi in breezy winters, cribbing about money but eventually making the most of how much you have- these are only the tip of the iceberg, you have so much more to explore.

Intern well:

Final years are crucial and while having fun, you must not forget to create a fine balance between fun and your academics. It is important to build your curriculum vitae by interning well, joining societies and volunteering for NGOs. It hones your personality, gives you an edge over others and polishes your skills. Intern in the direction you want to pursue your dreams, work efficiently and secure a bright future for yourself. More activities on your resume reflect that you are a hard-working student, with a diversified background in your work experience.

Internship

To summaries, life is never black or white in its abstract sense, life is rather the shades of grey. It means college life is not only about having fun neither is it only about getting book-smart but what it means is to find the perfect balance between the two to create your own customized life. Don’t miss out on the essentials- participate in activities, run for the presidential position, bunk a class once in a blue moon and simultaneously intern to secure your dreams. Finding a balance might be a roller-coaster ride, but it will be worth it!
