As much as the world continues to cry for help and is suffering physically and financially in this pandemic, the students have a hard time keeping up their mental health. The door to depression that was just ajar is now wide open with excess stress and anxiety. Students between the age group of 16-22 are struggling with school/college, losing useful knowledge daily. Despite the board exams being canceled, the idea of “what will I do next, especially, in these times”, is tossing students’ mental health into the bin. Staring at the screen for hours hasn’t been useful to anyone. Yet, we continue to do it. College students still worry about their exams. But the question still stands firm, “What can we do in these times?”.
So, here are a few ways for you to cope with the current times.

Exercise:

Couch potato. That is all we are turning into day by day in today’s pandemic. Experts say, even 15 minutes of daily exercise can help your body function better. Get over the excuse of not having time. Make sure to give yourself the daily exercise you need, take a deep breath. Take power breaks. In the middle of a break, between 2 classes do few squats or walk around the house.

Pep talk:

Maintain a journal (diary). Record and express your ideas and feelings. It need not be consistent. Write when you feel. It is the best time to write. It doesn’t have to be a happy journal. Sadness, anger, fear, disgust, and so on. All these feelings make us human beings. Then why shall your journal be just happy? Writing your feelings boosts your self-esteem, reducing self-doubt. Writing would be just like talking to yourself. And in these times, you require yourself the most!

New skill:

Dalgona coffee? Cupcake? If that’s something you made and are happy about it, then don’t be. The pandemic has allowed you to brush on your old skill or learn a new one. You don’t become a baker with just cupcakes. Always be open to the idea of learning more. Love painting? Keep painting more and more. Let it becomes your idea of relief from stress. Learn anything new to keep yourself busy and productive.

Language:

Literature is known to improve the quality of life. Yes, you may be good at your regional language or English but think of the thrill of knowing more languages than you already know! Think of being on a trip to Brazil (after Pandemic) and talking to people in Spanish just because you know it!

Friends and family:

We all need each other to keep ourselves in place. Take out some time to talk to your friends and family members. Not to discuss news, but to talk about life, experiences, daily management, fun memories. If with family, have a tea time or Sunday picnic in your backyard, just to feel normal.

Social media:

The most toxic effect the pandemic brought in was through social media. Everyone is angry and frustrated. Trolling people has become a hobby now. And if you are one of those people, then you need to find a new hobby. Social media is not a news source. This gives you the liberty to allocate a certain hour of the day to it.

Read:

Read, read and read. As much as you can. 1 page a day, or 1 book a week. Up to you. Reading will help you take a break from the present. And if you are reading a fantasy novel, then you will be jumping into a new world! It will indeed improve your vocabulary at the same time, it will induce imagination and positivity (can’t say about murder mystery though).

Watch:

As human beings, audiovisual media was one of our best creations. Make good use of it. Take a break and watch series or movies. It’s just like reading. You take a break from your present world. Watching series trigger your emotions and hormones. A good dose of endorphin (happy hormone) would be nice in these times.

Internship:

if you are a college student and have learned something in the past year, then it’s time you put it into practice. And if you’ve learned nothing, then an internship will help you learn something. Work from home opportunity is available now. Treat it as a summer vacation job and put in efforts. Besides learning, you will be making some easy bucks.

Clam down:

Remember, you aren’t a superhero. You can’t help everyone. Don’t take the guilt of not helping. You should have good mental health to take care of your rest.
