Introduction

To succeed at anything in life, you need to strategize your moves, upgrade your skills and believe in yourself. Don’t worry about how long it will take for you to succeed or compare your journey with others. We all are unique, and so are our journeys. Freelancing, like any other profession, demands hard work and time. Here are some tips for you to excel as a freelancer.

MINDSET

The corporate world is designed in a way that most of us are stuck at chasing paychecks. Since freelancing is a relatively new field, it has a lot of scopes. You should have a mindset of achieving freedom and success, not becoming rich. That is how you will have luck in any field. You will have no safety nets to fall to in your freelancing journey. You need to have a clear vision before you commit to freelancing. You should be able to find a niche and establish yourself in it. Apart from clarity, you need confidence.

Since you are completing pivoting your career. From being an employee with paychecks coming in every month to embarking upon a journey of ups and downs. Confidence will be your best friend on this journey. You will have to rely on your talent to survive. Once you have decided that this is the path you want to take and have found your clients, you need to make conviction the centre of all your decisions in this business. Always stand by the principles you believe. You are bound to fail if you fail at anything mentioned above. Conviction, confidence, and clarity in life are the peers to a successful life.

SET CLEAR GOALS

To measure your success, you need to set goals. It could be anything like “My dream is to make $10,000 a month, to be considered successful”. Be realistic and consider what you need in life. Reaching that goal is the first step to being successful in any career.

FIND YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE

What comes to your mind when you think about selling your product or offering your services? That is who your target audience should be. Knowing your target audience will help you market your services efficiently and achieve your target numbers.

HAVE AN AMAZING ELEVATOR PITCH

Now that you have found that perfect group of people you want to cater to, prepare an elevator pitch. It should be creative enough to catch the reader’s attention within a line or two. If you fail to impress your audience in that, they probably won’t take your services. Keep your goals and values in mind while drafting your pitch.

KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY

We can’t stress this point enough! The way to succeed is happy, loyal customers. People have a misconception that freelancers are not professional. Show them that they are wrong. Show them your professionalism and confidence. Deliver them the best products and gain their trust.

MAKE SOCIAL MEDIA YOUR BEST FRIEND

Do not leave any opportunities to pitch about the work you do. Use your Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, and Facebook accounts to showcase your work, and don’t forget to add your pitch in your bio. It can prove to be a great way of attracting clients. Use the 80/20 rule, which states that 80% of your posts should be fun, informative, and be able to engage with your audience, whereas the other 20% of your posts should be about your services and your works/achievements. You need consistency to become a successful freelancer on social media. Post content regularly and network with as many people as you can!
