Purpose of IIT And JEE

IITs: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) were established with the aim of providing high-quality technical education, research opportunities, and innovation in engineering and technology. The IITs offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various engineering disciplines, as well as in science, management, and humanities. The IITs have a global reputation for excellence and are known for producing successful alumni who have made significant contributions to the fields of engineering, science, and technology.
JEE: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to various undergraduate engineering courses in India, including the IITs, National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other top engineering colleges. The JEE exam aims to assess the candidates’ knowledge, comprehension, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills in the core subjects of physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The purpose of JEE is to select the most meritorious candidates for admission to the top engineering colleges in India based on their performance in the exam.

Admissions through JEE

Admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is based on the performance of candidates in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, which is the second stage of the JEE exam. The JEE exam consists of two papers – JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
JEE Main is the first stage of the exam, and it is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to various engineering colleges in India, including the NITs, IIITs, and other top engineering colleges, apart from the IITs. The JEE Main exam is a computer-based test that assesses candidates’ knowledge and understanding of physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
Candidates who qualify for JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Only the top 2,50,000 rank holders in JEE Main are allowed to appear for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is a more advanced level exam that tests candidates’ analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities in the core subjects of physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
Candidates who score well in JEE Advanced and meet the other eligibility criteria such as age limit, nationality, category, and academic qualifications are eligible for admission to the IITs. The final admission is based on the counseling process, where candidates are allotted seats based on their ranks and preferences.
