Everywhere career counselling is a huge and deep area of professional. It no doubt is affected by certain factors like which country and of course huge higher network along with huge talents availability in the country. In India especially it is a vast area of professional services driven by the factors mentioned above. The main question is how can one assess people correctly and accurately along with the appropriate judgment. Psychometric tools are used in career counseling to help clients make realistic career decisions. These tools generally fall into three categories. You will read about “Assessment tools used in career counselling” in this blog.

The first and foremost is Interest inventories followed by personality inventories which are also important because there are some personality-driven jobs and the last is the aptitude test which helps you know whether you have an eligible aptitude level in the field of your interest. 1.Interest Inventories

This is not that practical but the inputs and outputs can be related and referred for recommending people. It basically asks you about your interest and then matches it with the already existing people in that field, and job or anything. In short, it is a testing instrument designed to measure and evaluate the level of an individual’s interest in, or preference for, a variety of activities; also known as an interest test. 2.Personality Inventories

Personality is something that we judge or talk to others about regularly, but in our day-to-day life, we informally access it. Psychologists also do much of the same thing when they access personality but it’s more systematic and is on a much more scientific level. Different types of personality tests take place. Apart from being used for career counseling, personality tests are done for various other reasons like child custody counseling, clinical counseling, relationship counseling, and many more. We also have another angle to look at it which is it’s a notion that everyone is either an extrovert or an introvert, but we can not ignore the concept that most people are somewhere in between, and people at the extreme on either side are at the extremes and are. The validity of the first one to happen for career choice is highly questionable.

3. Aptitude Test

The aptitude test is designed in a way to access that if you have the required skills to enact or work in that area of interest. An aptitude test is not actually something that you can prepare from the bottom to the top. Despite it should be considered as the way to know about the already existing talent or for that matter skills requires apart from having interest. For eg if I say that I have an extreme interest in music that doesn’t mean that I have the required aptitude for that area, which would help me succeed in that particular field.

It can basically predict with good odds whether a particular person will be able to be successful in a particular occupation. For example, a student who wants to be a physicist is unlikely to succeed if he cannot do the math. An aptitude test will tell him if he is likely to do well in advanced math, which is necessary for physics. There are also aptitude tests that can predict success.
