As we all know, forensic science is said to be a branch of science which concentrates on and uses several kinds of scientific methods to investigate crimes, and also to examine the evidence presented in a particular crime. In simple words, it is the application of science to criminal laws. When it comes to forensic science and law, the branch of forensic science acquires a very important role.

Forensic science is considered to be one of the most important aspects of any criminal investigation. Without the existence of forensics, criminal investigation cannot be taken forward. Thus we can understand that forensic science and law (criminal law) coexist together.  For any criminal investigation to be taken forward, the analyzing of fingerprints, other body fluids like saliva, semen, blood etc. should be done. Forensic science helps in the identification of all these.

IMPORTANCE:

Forensic science helps in the identification of the criminals in different ways. Forensic experts collect the samples from the crime scene and then report their findings which help in the further development of the case. They mostly concentrate on the evidence samples. Apart from fingerprint analysis, DNA profiling is another famously used forensic technique. The DNA which remains unique for each and every person as fingerprints, help the forensic experts to identify the criminal. When a crime takes place, just by seeing the body, actions cannot be taken nor could the criminal be found out. Here the only possible way to find out the culprit is by examining the crime scene and the dead body.

The fluids like blood, urine, saliva, semen etc. and other materials like hair, skin, nails etc. which can be collected from the dead body, after undergoing several chemical tests could predict the criminal or the nature of the criminal. The importance of forensic science is highly appreciated in association with the rape cases as well as murder cases. If there are no known witnesses to the case, the prosecution will use the evidence which are found at the crime scene. Another important feature of forensic science is that it can also find out when a crime has been committed, can identify the approximate date and time. It can calculate the oldness of the dead body, also the approximate age and sex of the dead body. It can also analyze the cause of death. The forensic pathologists perform autopsies to identify the cause of the death.

CONCLUSION:

Being a scientific method, forensic science has become a boon to the criminal justice system. With the help of forensic science the real criminal could be found out with proof and the innocent could be left free. Every branch of forensic science helps in the functioning of criminal law. With the arrival of technology the forensic experts have developed more advanced branches for the subject. The legal system has clearly understood the significance of forensic science in the modern period where the crime scenes are very large in number. Now forensic science has become a very popular branch of science which helps in the determination of the criminal which indeed helps in the smooth functioning of law. Criminal law and criminal justice will not work without the co-existence of forensic science.
