BCA (Bachelor of Computer Application) is a degree course which trains students to make their career in the field of computer applications and software development. This is a 3 year undergraduate course which provides a sound academic base for an advanced career in computer applications. BCA is designed to produce graduates who have the necessary skills and knowledge not only in computer and information technology, but also in communication, organization and management.

While pursuing BCA, students get well versed in programming languages such as Java, C+, HTML, Database management, SQL, Python. This program demonstrates sound knowledge in key areas of computer programming. It also carries out the required analysis involved in computer and information systems.

BCA has innumerous scope in the field of IT, computers and it offers multiple opportunities. Here are some job that one can apply for after pursuing a degree in BCA:

  • Software developer
  • Software engineer
  • Technical writer
  • Web designer
  • Software sales engineer
  • Mobile app developer
  • System administrator

After completion of BCA course a candidate must be able to get placement in the field of IT and in big corporate sectors like Microsoft, Oracle, Wipro, Infosys, HLL etc.

If you feel like you need to study further after BCA then you can go for MCA, M. Tech, MBA, civil services etc.

The top IT companies hire BCA graduates and even encourage them to pursue post-graduation, MS degree from top colleges like BITS-Pilani or Vellore Institute of Technology, which is fully sponsored. This process provides you with the three most important things everyone wants to achieve after graduating, they are, a handsome job with good salary, post-graduation from dream colleges and most importantly, experience.




Now the students get confused before going for BCA that if they are not very intelligent then they should go for it or not. They fear that whether they’ll be able to cope up with it.

Dear students, Bachelor of Computer Application is just a 3 year degree course which requires logical mind and mathematics. BCA is a bit easier as compared to Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science which is a 4 year degree course. This fact does not mean that the scope of BCA is less as compared to B. Tech in computer science.

You need not be exceptionally brilliant to pursue BCA. It is not a very tough course but yes at the same time if you don’t take it seriously then it may look like the biggest milestone. Nothing can be taken for granted you have to do hard work in today’s world as there is endless competition. Now I’ll state some key areas that a student pursuing a BCA degree have to work on:


  • Personality development - All companies need employees with a good personality as a company is known by its quality of employees. So a student must work on his/her personality to get a quality placement.
  • Basic mathematics - While programming there is a need a fast and efficient mathematics. A candidate pursuing BCA must be good at mathematics.
  • Logic building - For making code for a program, a logic is build first. So if a student want to be efficient in programming, he/she has to work hard to build logic.
  • Knowledge of core computing technologies - The candidate must be in continuous touch with computing technologies as there is no need of learning old and outdated concepts.
  • Communication skills - The student must also work on his/her communication skills so that it is easy for him/her to deliver his thoughts and ideas to other person.

These are some basic skills required to pursue BCA. These skills are not very tough to get in, they can easily be acquired by regular and sincere practice. By brushing up these skills, a candidate can do wonders in academics and in return, get a high salary job in prestigious companies or develop a good base required to do post-graduation further. If a candidate takes this degree course sincerely and does hard work, then it is definitely a cup of tea for him/her.
