Interesting field of study.

But mind you, except in Designing, which is a course after 12th, can you study Fashion Designing.
No colleges in the 11th and 12th provides you subjects related to fashion.

As far as making it big in the Fashion industry is concerned, you firstly would have to choose your type. Whether you are going to be a designer for formal outfits or western or a fusion of the two cultures.
Very important is to create your design portfolio as soon as possible.
Sketches or the portfolio will help you gauge how good are you with creativity, which is an integral part of this industry.

Apart from this other skills required would be:
  • Innovativeness
  • Creativity
  • Being different
  • Trendy
  • Farsightedness
  • Knowledge of materials, texture, colours

As far as this subject is concerned this is more a creative oriented course, so i would be more practical oriented and may be theory would come in when it comes to learning about different textures, materials and threading and marketing and communication.
But again these are subjects which you cant rote learn unless and until you dont understand the concept you cant write or remember.
Moreover since you are going to be using it on a day to day basis, you cannot rote learn and still remember it later.

During the course, you would learn about ways of
  • Designing
  • How to be creative yet trendy

  • How to make designs in a low budget but yet be different and best
  • Differentiate between materials and which one will go with the other and so on

But ofcourse they will teach you all skills you need to design a fabric or costume, but at the end of the dy. it is your innovative and creative ideas that will help you in long run.

Best would be to work in a boutique and get a hang of the industry and before opting for a degree after 12th, you could opt for diploma certificates which are for 6 months.

Hope this answers your query.

Wish you good luck............
