Hey Dear,

It is really good if you have thoroughly memorized and learnt from your NCERT books as it forms the basis of many entrance exams be it medical or even for that matter engineering.

As far as AIIMS or the All India Institute of Medical Science Entrance is considered it is one of the premier institutes for doing your MBBS from is considered and hence the level of entrance exam is also of very high standards which also requires a lot of hard work and determination and also consistent revisions and practice and by merely going though NCERT books will not make your way though AIIMS entrance exam.

Almost all the MBBS aspirants dream of studying or doing their MBBS from AIIMS and cracking the exam. So just imagine how much hard work or effort they would have put in for getting a seat in this institute and moreover there are very few seats for the same course and hence the level of competition is also very tough.
Every years there are Lakhs of students who apply for this exam and in the end only 40 students are selected for the course just imagine the level of competition in this area.

Also remember that these text books are only basis for your studies and totally depending on them will not be a good idea as they do not have sufficient reference material for the students. Yes it is true that they define your course content but surely they are not sufficient to incorporate all the topics to their core.

Also many students take coaching for the medical entrance exams and just imagine the level and area of knowledge that they must have touched upon for the entrance exam. And then you will have to compete with these students.

I would suggest you to prepare yourself even more thoroughly by either taking some coaching or by using some other reference books because the chances are very dim but do not loose hope and do give the entrance this time as well. You never Know what life has in stores for you!

Good Luck!

Dear student, NCERT books can bne considered as base books for the test, yes they do help to a great extent but solely depending on them , perhaps may not be a good idea. there are various other competitive exam preparation books available in the market , just carry out a small survey and you may easily make out which one is more suitable, for example H C Verma for Physics and O P Tondon for Chemistry etc. and along with that you need to keep an eye on renowned institutions for admissions, like - AIIMS, New Delhi,..................................Christian Medical College, Chennai,.......................and for paramedical science stream - lovely Professional University, Phagwara

Hi Rahim,

The examination content for any competitive exam should as per the syllabus followed by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the body which prescribes NCERT books in schools. It is quite difficult to clear an entrance exam, as prestigious as AIIMS by only studying NCERT books, because you'll not be able to develop a deep insight and proper understanding of any given topic. It is therefore, advised to study only the relevant topics in reference books in detail for focussed preparation of a competitive exam. A review of the last three years entrance examination papers will also provide you with a clear picture about the kind of questions asked and the level of exam. You can then accordingly choose the books to study from.

Hope this helps.
