After doing the Mechanical Engineering if somebody want to do the research, it will necessary to have the post graduation degree in Mechanical or Allied branch of Mechanical Engineering (Automobile, Production, Robotics, Mechatroinics, triobology etc). The Post graduation is actual gateway for doing Research in any field including the mechanical engineering.

To do the research one need to have to patience, ability to do experimentation, gathering the data and doing its extensive analysis are required factors for doing the any kind of research. There are many fields available for doing the research. For example Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is also extensively used for research applications in Mechanical Engineering. For example a newly designed car how it will come across the wind flow can be simulated through the CFD analysis.

Robotics is one of upcoming branch in which knowledge machine plus electronics is available that fellow can work for many organization. There are many opportunities available for Automization in many sector which needs the Robotics for their application.

The research in to the automobile is also one of the key area in Mechanical engineering, but most of MNC company is having the R&Ds in outside country (Germany etc) and manufacturing house in India only. The most of the design for any new model is done in to the outside country so there are opportunities available for research but it is less in number.

Research can be done on to how to lower the combustion of vehicle and how to do the modification in to the exhaust system of any vehicle like wise. The most important part is student should have research attitude.

If some body wants to achieve higher position in research field, there is necessity to have Ph.D. qualification to become R&D head in that organization. with PhD qualification there are many job opportunities in market in India and abroad. Also one can join for the Post Doctorate fellowship in respective field after doing the PhD from recognized university. One can do the research in any academic institution along with the teaching because the research is also done in academic institutes. But having qualification like MTech and PhD is must as per the new norms of AICTE. There should be zeal for research work this is important criteria.
