Hello

Thank you very much for choosing CareerGuide.com and writing to us. I appreciate your interest in Psychology and I am indeed happy to offer you some guidance over this matter because I am from a Psychology background too.

First of all I would like to tell you one important mantra. Do what you like and never give your ears to others. Your interest will drive hard work from you and that will ultimately pay you off. If you give importance to what others think of you or the subject you have chosen to study, it is never going to help you at any cost. Psychology has a very good impression of course! May be you need to step out of the circle who proposed this thought on you and step into the right place to explore what Psychology is all about.

Psychology is vast and has many divisions. Your career will depend on what type of Psychology you are willing to choose as your specialization. For example, Psychology has about 12 fields and please see the box below.
Psychologists

An MPhil in Psychology will give you an option to specialize from and you may choose what interests you. To alert you, not all subjects listed above are available in India. Indian institutions commonly offer Clinical psychology, Counselling psychology, Industrial Psychology, Health Psychology and Education Psychology. As part of your MPhil in Psychology, choose what subject you like from the above mentioned elective courses available in India. To know more about each course, please see the description offered by Counsellor Preti Taneja here.

Another thing I wanted to tell you, people generally confuse between Psychiatrist and Psychologist. Al though both these professional tend to deal with mentally challenged patients, a psychiatrist is a medical physician offering his services in clinical settings. he is a real Doctor where in a psychologist does offer counselling services in a clinical and non-clinical setting but is not a Doctor. People generally assume psychologist deals with mentally ill patients but the truth is not. A psychologist can not only work in hospital settings, but can also work in education sector, corporates as a Hr, Motivational speaker, soft skill trainer, personality trainer, and much more.

I therefore suggest you to carefully consider the elective best suited to you and study in your MPhil degree. Hope this helps.
