A biologist is a scientist devoted to and producing results in biology through the study of organisms. Typically biologists study organisms and their relationship to their environment. Biologists involved in basic research attempt to discover underlying mechanisms that govern how organisms work. Biologists involved in applied research attempt to develop or improve medical, industrial or agricultural processes. Some biologists work in management positions coordinating or supervising research. Technicians perform specialized tasks using laboratory equipment.
There are many types of biologists. Some deal with the macroscopic world and other with the microscopic. There is much overlap between different fields, and it is often hard to classify a biologist as only one of them. Some of the fields are:
* Animal
* Biochemistry
* Cell
* Developmental
* Ecology
* Evolutionary

* Genetic
* Microbiology
* Molecular
* Plant
* Structural
* Taxonomy
* Morphology
* Cytology
Many jobs in biology as a field require an academic degree. A PhD (or equivalent) is generally required to direct independent research involves a specialization in a specific area of biology.

Below is the list of the areas on which a biologist works most of the times:

1. They devote a lot of time to collect the samples and make their observations. These are really helpful in the study and research that they are going to do next. Therefore they need to go outdoors to collect the samples and do their research.

2. Once the biologists have those samples and the required material and equipments, they start working on the study and research part. They use various laboratory equipments in order to make the right observations and carefully note that down. It takes long hours of focus and hectic work inside the laboratories. They do several types of experiments and derive the conclusions.

3. Biologists also do further analysis to their work on the computers and other machines in order to generate the results. These days the reliance on the technology has increased quite a lot and therefore they have to understand it well so that they can provide the right contribution in a much more efficient way.

4. Biologists have to maintain the records of their research and other work and therefore they do quite a lot of paper work too. This is important as there has to be the record of even the slightest of the activities that they have performed so that it could be retrieved later. They have to mark the references in these records.

5. Biologists who are associated with the universities often take the lectures for the aspiring biologists and therefore spend their time in teaching. This is a good exercise as it not only gives them a break from the research work but also adds a lot of value to their learning and the overall profile. They get involved in the various academic and non academic activities and enjoy their work in the college or university.

6. Biologists have to publih their work from time to time. Therefore the research that they have conducted has to be published and they work towards it all the time and get it published on the regular basis.

Dear Friend, the job aof a biolgist is very challenging and interesting, because biologist has to interact with students, colleagues, superiors and may be clients. The biologist could be a botanist (working on plants), a zoologist (animal related studies), microbiologist (deals with microorganisms), biochemist (study the biochemical aspects of living beings), environmental scientist (study the environmental aspcts) and there are many more disciplines related to biology.

The important key areas for a biologist depends upon his nature of jobs. If a person in academecia, then he has to deal most of the time in teaching and interacting with students. He spend time to prepare the topics for his class. Before going to class agian going through the topic. He has to also guide the students about their research work, parctical classes.

The biologist is also supposed to do research, for this he writes research proposals to funding agencies. After getting projects he carried out research activities with the help of his research fellows. The out come of research activities are published in the form of research papers.

Besides these activities the biologist also involved in attending the confrences, workshops and training programs. The senior biologist also looks after the administrative aspects of the department or institution. In admisnistrative jobs, there is less teaching and research activities. Along with these activities the biologist also do other waork as looking after exam, preparing questions and then checking answer books. The quality assurance duities of the department and regular process of meetings with students, colleagues and seniors. In nut shell the biologist keeps himself or herself busy during the office time.

In private sector, there is no teaching, the biologist works mostly on research and development and management aspects. The routine job of biologist is to work on a project and to achieve the target within stipulated time period. The senior biologist also trains the juniors. The presentation of results, preparation of reports and publishing the important data is also a part of biologist job in private.

Let me make it more clear that the area of work for a biologist depends upon the organization and type of job. Finally, it is an enjoyable field.

With my all best wishes.....
