Dear Friend,

There are various options open for a CA to work as a freelancer, the correct word would be to practice CA (i.e. having your own firm). One have to choose a specific field first & have expertise in that. Following are the options available for a CA:

1) Auditing
One can do auditing of the accounts of entities. There are various audits which a CA performs. To name it, statutory audit, tax audit, special audits, stock audits etc.

2) Direct Taxation
One can give direct tax consultancy which is a very wide area of work. Direct tax basically means Income tax related work. Following are detailed list of work:

Filing of income tax return
Filing of forms such as TDS / TCS etc.
Certification
Filing of appeal
Assessments

3) Indirect Taxation
One can provide consultancy in indirect taxes. Its also very wide area of work. It includes service tax, VAT, excise, custom duty etc. following are the detailed list:

Registration work
Filing of returns
Assessments / Appeals
Filing & drafting of appeals

4) Corporate financing
Arranging funds for various companies is good area of work. One has to analys the requirement of the client & accordingly arrange funds. It is a highly paid work.

5) Formation - Merger - Acquisition


This is one of the highly paid work. If you excel in this field you will earn manifold. There are very few entities which provide these services.

6) Company Law and LLP work
filing of application & formation related work

7) Charitable trusts
Registration work & providing various approvals. Reports & making budgets etc

8) Investigation, management services or special assignments

9) Certification work
Issuing certificates such as:
Income tax certificates
For LIC/ Passport/ Credit Cards etc
Networth Certificate

10) Wealth Tax work

11) Consultation & arbitration

12) NBFC / RBI Matters

13) FEMA Matters
Filing declaration with RBI, obtaining permissions etc
