Hello

Thank you for contacting us. I see you are asking about training opportunities in fashion designing. it is always good to be equipped with relevant training while being at college education as once you graduate, it will stand you with high employability grade.

There are many training opportunities you could take as a fashion student. Consider the following options below to develop your hands on designing skills in fashion designing.

1. Be mentored by a designer: While you are at college, it is good if you could create your own designs. Approach some of the leaders in the fashion designing industry and get their valuable advice in making your own garment and designs. The better they could mentor or guide you, the more it will prove useful to you.

2. Trainee at a company: Join as an intern or trainee at reputed designer clothing institutes or garment companies. Obtain a certification for your training.

3. Work as an Assistant for a designer: Join as a summer project trainee for a reputable designer and work as his design assistant.

Create portfolio: Create a portfolio with all your works and produce it when you are taking employment.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hello

To help you further on this question, please take a look at my following suggestions below. You can undergo various training opportunities in India and abroad to complement your present degree level. I understand it may be always difficult for students to seek mentoring or trainee opportunities by leading fashion designers in India. But trying to seek such opportunities are never a fault. Check out yourself if you are inspired by any particular fashion designer. Which fashion designers work inspires you the most. Accordingly, try approaching the related fashion designers. You may visit their official website and try contacting the PR officers of the fashion designing company. Some fashion designers are also happy to recruit some students as their assistants. Check with the company if there are such opportunities. Also see if the companies have trainee opportunities listed on their website. You may still try your luck by approaching the designers personally through LinkedIn website or through their official social media pages. Please be careful in not pestering them for internship opportunities as it might give them a bad impression on you. Also try preparing a CV and covering letter mentioning what inspired you with the designer's work and justify why you want to work under their supervision. If you have already prepared a portfolio, send it along. It might pitch your resume well.

Secondly, check for some training institutes who offer hands on experiences and certificates in India and abroad. Some of the training institutes in India would include NIFT, Lisa school of Design. These institutes run short courses that may help you to strengthen your design. Also consider doing short three month courses abroad. French fashion school, Italy fashion school and London institute of fashion design, London school of arts run short short courses like the Diploma for one year or the Certificate courses ranging from 3 months to 6 months. Such courses make your standing better on your resume when seeking job opportunities.

Lastly, try doing freelancing work and construct a portfolio. Some of the working tips here include, do dress designing for children, youth, bridal and take photographs with them. You can especially try bridal dress designing as this market has a lot of potential growth opportunities. Try creating a facebook page for yourself and post your creative works on them. The more you post your work and the more you are able to reach people, it reflects your expertise and interest in designing. Include the facebook page on your resume that will help employers understand your passion and ultimately win your place for the job.

Good luck.
