Dear Friend !

Indian education system for undergrad and post-grade level has been constituted fundamentally, technically and professionally wherein colleges are monitored and regulated by govt bodies like UGC and AICTE. These regulatory bodies are having strict policies to confer the affiliation and association to cater the course structure with standard bench marking at national and international standard.

One a college gives the declaration by stating that we offer only basic courses like Botany/Zoology/Chemistry/Biochemistry at Under graduate level then itself a declaration about the type of skill and subject utility in the job market. For example a simple graduate in Botany can not claim any industrial job though graduate can become demonstrator/technician in the same subject and earn the experience and do pursue higher degree. It is the probability test as training for future upliftment.

Similarly if you have done MS/MSc even though you need hand on experimental exposure so better to join a six month training course at commercial level then you explore job.

In summary I can say the basic degree colleges/universities/institutions are not capable to give your professional career in broad as comparison to any technical university/institution whether it is deemed or affliated with AICTE/UGC/MHRD.

Any technical university or institute offers the professional degree program at UG/PG level and design their curricula in such a way where students are given full length technical and professional exposure and as a result placement cell provides the database of passing out students to any recruiter for final placement. Why IITs/NITs/IISERs are on top priority for the students not only in biology but almost all technical fields are having same percentile of success rate in job market. The reason is their approach to teach the subject and that is why they charge students heavily after rigorous screening. As a result students are destined to their goal without any extra training.

Now it is up to you where you want to be either in any local college where basic degree is awarded even though you have chance if you individually sharp and focused or an institute where tuition fee and admission criteria are stringent then no need to go for extra pad to launch.

I wish you success in the Biological Sciences

Manoj

Dear Aspirant, as a college graduate you training is defined or covered itself in the course curriculam. As a college graduate, you study biology subjects in two parts, one as theory and another one as practical aspects. As a general rule, one can read and understand theory even if some one dont attend the clasess. It is the practical part of a course curriculam which needs physical preseance of a student to attened and perform the practicals. The reason being is the handling of different sophisticated instruments employed in biology practicals can only be learned by operating them.

This completes your first step of training. Let me explain this by quoting an example. we have seen many times that how a mechanic fixes a puncture in tyre. We know how he do it, but if we have to fix the puncture, we cant do it, because we have seen the process but we have not done it with our own hands. Therefore, one has to understand and perfor the operation of biological instruments, such as microscope, instruments used in DNA, RNA and protein isolation.

Besides these regular trainings of course curriculam, many departments of universities also invite people for training purposes on payment basis. These types of trainings are very important, as they are related to latest development in biological aspects. If some one is doing graduation or post graduation from a college or institute, which is not equipped with all or sophisticated instruments used in biological (microbiological, biochemicalm biotechnological, environmental science related) related topics. Then the trainings imparted by other well equiped institutes or departments becomes very helpful.

Here a student lerans the techniques during training program but due to large number of students (say 20 or more) the personal handling of all instruments is not possible. But still you learn the basics of techniques. After completion of training program you get a certificate, which will be very helpful at the time of applying for a job. Another thing, this training will help you when you gent an opportunity to work on the instruments, about which you got training.

These types of trainings now a days are also given by many private organizations, who manufacture or deals in sales of biological instruments.

As a graduate or post graduate student, if you find any opportunity to get such trainings, never miss the chance. Try to make connections with some students who are working in well equipped laboratories, where you can learn the operation and trainings about the biolgical instruments.

Best wishes,

Vivek
