Tips for  Exam Preparation

  • Understand the exam pattern and syllabus: The first step in preparing for any exam is to understand the exam pattern and syllabus. The IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) is a three-hour computer-based test with 60 multiple-choice questions, 15 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. Each question carries 4 marks for a correct answer and -1 mark for an incorrect answer. There is no negative marking for unattempted questions. The syllabus for the IAT is based on the Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT textbooks in PCMB. However, candidates are advised to refer to the IAT website for the detailed syllabus.
  • Create a study plan: Once you understand the exam pattern and syllabus, you can create a study plan. The study plan should be realistic and achievable. It should also be flexible enough to accommodate unexpected changes in your schedule.
  • Gather your study materials: You will need to gather your study materials, such as textbooks, reference books, and practice papers. You can also find many online resources, such as mock tests and video tutorials.
  • Start preparing early: It is important to start preparing for the IAT early. This will give you enough time to cover the entire syllabus and practice regularly.
  • Focus on understanding the concepts: Don’t just focus on memorizing facts and figures. Try to understand the concepts behind the topics. This will help you answer questions more effectively.
  • Solve previous year’s question papers and mock tests: Solving previous year’s question papers and mock tests is one of the best ways to prepare for the IAT. This will help you get a feel for the exam pattern and the types of questions asked.
  • Take breaks: It is important to take breaks while studying to avoid burnout. Get up and move around every 30-45 minutes to stay refreshed and focused.
