Hello There!

Choosing between engineering and medicine is definitely a tough job and I am glad that you decided to approach CareerGuide.com for seeking guidance and help in choosing your stream for a stable and secured and growing career.

Medical and Engineering are entirely way apart career fields and many good students who have scored well in their HSC examinations, often get confused which one to choose.

As you may be aware in Engineering, there are many fields in which you can be an Engineer like Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Design, Computer, Information Technology, Instrumentation, Production, Systems, Bio-technology, Defence, Aircraft, etc.

In medical field also there are many fields which one can do his / her career like in General Medicines, Gynaechology, Optholmology, Dentist, Veternary, etc. I would say Medicine field is very vast compared to Engineering.

Choosing between Engineering and Medicines, would very much depend on your attitude, capability, ability, competence, perseverance, patience, hard work, skills, etc. Every field requires to have different and distinct set of skills in order to give the right justice to the concerned profession.

Here, I would like to suggest you to undergo a Psychometric Assessment done through CareerGuide.com. This test can be done at your home all by your self and the results are instant. Psychometric test is a proven and famous tool which is used to judge and know a person's interests, passion, liking, emotional connect, attitude, strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities, personality traits, etc.

Knowing all the above is very very necessary to know since if a person does not know his / her capabilities, abilities, strengths, weaknesses, then it is very possible for the career to go unsuccessful and can result in frustration and depression due to the wrong choice made of the career option.

Post the assessment, you will be speaking to a career counsellor one-one basis wherein you will be told exactly of what career course / option will suit you the best.

It is always important for a person to do what he enjoys doing and for what he is made for. If this is done so accordingly, he / she will definitely get successful.

Best Luck.

This is the existing confusion for all students who have taken the 12th Science stream.

Both the professions are quite lucrative.
But mind you these days getting a job in both the fields is extremely difficult, since there are many in a lot. What is something different in you that you must be employed.

Medical is a 5 1/2 years course, post 12th. Please note that these days internship is for a year, making it a 61/2 year course. Looking forward there is no scope just being a General Practitioner, unless you wish to open your clinic and start practicing. So doing a PG is important.
Along with this please note that if you do a different or a unique specialization rather than following the lot is important. Since there are many doctors in the top level, for you to make a name would be difficult. So choose from something like Occupational Therapists to Oncology, to radiologists to Physiotherapists to orthopedic to pediatrician.

As far as engineering is concerned it is a 4 years course. Getting a job after Graduation is difficult these days unless you are at the top level. Due to the lack of employment opportunities engineers opt for an MBA program this year.

Please note that the above mentioned details are not to put you down but to show you facts happening in the stream.

Also one needs different potentials in the two streams.
eg. A doctor needs good communication skills and needs to be empathetic, whereas an engineer would need good hands on or motor skills.rather than communication skill.

For you to choose between the 2 streams, it would be best if you could undergo an Aptitude tests that would point out your potentials and help you decide accurately.

Wish you good luck..........
