Banking offers a neat , clean, peaceful and dignified work atmosphere and lifestyle. The banking sector embraces the entire society. Jobs in banking mean as much work with people as with figures. A bank officer is in direct contact people from all sections of society and by his/her efficiency and sincerity, can win their respect and friendship
. The academic record does matter while looking for a job as bank officer. The nationalized commercial banks and regional banks induct officers through a written examination followed by interview of successful candidate. Graduates ( with a basic minimum percentage) of recognized universities/ institutes are eligible to appear for examination. The written examination ( Probationary officers' examination) is both objective and descriptive in nature. The objective sections evaluating working knowledge of the English language, quantitative aptitude, general awareness, reasoning and logical deduction. The descriptive test is an assessment of the power of expression of a candidate in English/ Hindi related to short composition or analysis of given situations. The interview is an exercise in evaluation of the personality of candidate through questions on their personnel bio data and current national and international events, general knowledge etc. Aspiring candidates are expected to be with the operating systems, knowledge of word processing and spread sheet software like Ms Word, Ms Excel etc. Foreign banks pick up their personnel from campus recruitment held in the premier business schools. Private banks recruit officer trainees from among st first class graduates or graduates with at least 55% marks, management trainees from among st MBA's and also recruit experienced personnel from the banking sector for middle and higher management positions. A Regional rural banks place their officers in one particular state and movement is limited to that state. Public sector banks have a wide reach both in urban and rural areas.Promotions are linked to a highly motivated, result oriented and dynamic approach.

Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for writing to us!

The academic record does matter while looking for a job as bank officer. To work in public sector bank, you need to appear for competitive exams for recruitment. Minimum qualification required to appear in such exams is graduation with 45%.

For private sector banks, minimum qualification required is graduation with 55%, technical knowledge and skills. If you have poor academic records, most banks may offer marketing jobs where academic records don't matter.

Hope this answer is helpful

Best Wishes,
