How to manage Engineering and Mass Comm. Examinations both at the same time?

My parents want me to appear for Engineering Examinations but I am personally interested in applying for Mass Comm. So I want to appear and prepare for Mass Comm. Examinations side by side. Please tell me a proper way or strategy I should follow so that I can equally pay importance to both the areas.

Dear aspirant

Thank you for approaching counsellors at meracareerguide and i am glad you seeked to hear advice from us. I very well understand your interest in mass communication and your deep motivation to prepare for an entrance test and appear for the examination.

Dear child, first of all please be open to your parents. Lots of parents dont believe in their childrens interest because they think their child has not understood the world enough and are choosing wrong path against their career. for this raeson i highly recommend you to sit and have a healthy talk or discussion with your parents on why you like mass communication against Engineering.

Next i also recommend you to personally evaluate yourself. Sometimes advisors may be right and sometimes they may be wrong but a proper self evaluation will never go wrong. So i highly recommend you to ask yourself why you dont like engineering and why you like mass communications. You need to list down your reasons under each subject on a note and show it to your parents. Also, an engineering discipline is broad and you should understand which branch of engineering you want to study - Mecahnical. electrical/ electronics or chemical. You should talk to your family members to get their support in preparations. Before that you are highly recommended to take the psychometricassessment from this CareerGuide.com website. Taking the test will help you achieve some clarity in telling you if you are suitable to studying mass communications or engineering. You can also show the results to your parents for them to get convinced on your personality and the suitable careers.

It is never recommended to pursue both at a same time. It is therefore not advisable to prepare for engineering exam and mass communication exam at the same time. If you tend to do that simultaneously you nay get physically and mentally exhausted at one point. Suppose if you are good at mass communications, when you get exhausted this may adversely affect your mass communication entrance exam though being good at it. For this very reason i recommend you to withdraw the idea of simultaeously preparing for both and just preparing for one, that you really want to study. Your psychometric test results will be a lot help to guide you through this confusion. So please dont fail to take this test. Above all talk to your parents as you need their emotional and mental support to encourage you through the exams.

All the best.

Hi There,

Your question puts me in a state of shock.

Since both Engineering and Media requires high level of concentration and persistence.

As an engineering student, apart from lectures, you would be engaged in practicals that would consume most of your day, which at the end I dont think you would have time to focus on Media course.

Similarly during the media course, you would be expected to carry on with internship and that too would consume your day and it would be impossible to appear for engineering lectures and practicals.

Even if you somehow manage, it would completely strain you.

Best here would be to get an Aptitude tests done, and with the results brain storm and choose a career accordingly.
May be you have both the potentials.
So then advisable would be to pursue engineering and in the vacations opt for courses like web designing, animations, coral draw etc, which would be later required if you wish to join the media industry.
Also note that, after an engineering degree, you can opt for a PG Diploma in Media, but not the other way round.

And in-case if you wish to pursue a PG Diploma, the above mentioned certificates would come in handy.

In case you wish to continue in the field of engineering, then you could opt to work as an engineer in the Media industry and these certificates can be helpful at that time too.

But instead of going round and round, my advise would be to brainstorm with your Parents and come down to a common conclusion and if supported with an Aptitude tests it would be the best.

Hope this helps.

Wish you good luck dear...
