What is a CV? CV is an acronym for “Curriculum Vitae”. It is a Latin expression which means ‘course of life’. It gives the idea about the education qualification, hobbies, achievements, experience and whatever he/she has done to enhance his/her skills.

A CV is very important as it is the first impression that you have on the employer. It is the very first chance to make a positive impression on the employer, which is the first step for getting your dream job. So it is very much necessary that you invest a decent amount of time and effort in making your CV. Sadly, in most schools and colleges, the teaching faculty is so engrossed in maintaining the academic performance of the students, that they do not pay attention to teach how to write an impressive CV.

Having stated the meaning and importance of a good CV, let us learn how to write an impressive CV.

As we all know present world is very practical and rational. Every company wants to know how fit the applicant is for the position he/she has applied for. The best way to write a CV is to mention what you can contribute for the benefit of the company you are applying for. You must search everything about the company to get an idea about what they want in an employee.

Now I’ll write some important points or steps you may apply while writing an impressive Curriculum Vitae (CV) –

  • Presentation- Presentation goes a long way for a good CV. If you have taken care on the look and layout then it makes the impression that you care about the position and are serious for getting that. If your CV is not looking smart and has spelling mistakes, then the employer does not take you seriously. Your CV should be easy to read with proper headings. It should not exceed about 2 pages. Use positive language, highlight headings, be clear and concise.
  • Personal details- Include your name and address, a phone number and your email address. Your nationality, gender, and date of birth are optional.
  • Personal profile- It is a summary about your areas of expertise, characteristics, enthusiasm for work and motivations.
  • Key skills- Mention your skills what you have acquired till date, especially the ones you have for the benefit of the company. Use bullet points to write.
  • Education Qualification- Write your educational qualification is chronological order

along with the year, marks obtained and name of qualification.

  • Employment History- It is optional for the applicants you have not worked before.
  • Interests- Mention your hobbies, what you do in free time and achievements.
  • References- Simply state the name of your referees on your CV and state that they are available on your request. Do take their permission before mentioning.

Just write all correct details about yourself. Never lie while writing your CV. Writing a CV is an art, there is no particular way to write it. It depends on person to person how impressive he/she writes the CV.
