Please note that there is a difference between being interested in collecting information as a hobby and being interested and getting in-depth in it as a profession.

The reason I have put this up is that you would now have to sit and decide with a lot of maturity, whether it is your hobby, which you would like to pursue in your free time or as a means of relaxation or you wish to pursue it as a career, i.e work 24/7 in it by getting involved in the nitty-gritty of the job involved.

If it is a mere hobby, then you could read about it on the internet as there are articles available, and at the same time can visit the Planetarium and get a complete eye view.

But if the hobby is a passionate dream you wish to pursue, then mind you Science is extremely important, especially Physics and Math.
So you just cannot be an average student, but excellent.

The concepts needs to be mesmerized as a parrot, as it would be used at every stage of your work. And please note that this is an important part of Research field.
Astronomy just does not deal with studying space and its objects, but it also involves Research, finding the cause and effects.
For that all concepts needs to be understood and utilized tool at the same time.
Another important aspect to be noted here is that, your aim has to be to join the NASA team, though for that you need to be a US citizen, but never-the-less, if you are the top notch scientists level, its NASA that will call you for their research work on a scholarship base. Though it is a long term dream, but if you keep this aim in mind, your goal is set and nothing can then divert you from achieving your goal.

AT the same time, if you are confused, I will recommend an Aptitude tests, so that you could choose a course that suits your ability and would be a guide for you in the future.
But of=-course nothing is better than a Self introspection.

Just to sum it up, Science is a must if Astronomy is what you wish to specialize in future, especially focus on Physics and Math as a subject.
