Many industrial and manufacturing units use instrumentation systems to monitor their facilities. These instruments measure temperature, pressure, radiation, voltage and other variables. Instrument engineers design these instruments, keep a watch of their instruments and troubleshoot existing devices to ensure that effective repairs are made. Instrumentation engineers also set up and maintain complex computer controlled equipment driving instrumentation.They design the actuator, positing devices and robots for industrial automation. Instrumentation engineers also work as consultant after gaining certain years of experience

They also get engaged in academic research in universities or acquire a role as a lecturer.The industries that mainly hire instrumentation engineers include food and chemical processing plants, manufacturing firms, oil and gas refineries, energy companies, aerospace units and pharmaceutical development and production companies.
