Public relation is an important area in the field of mass communication. It promotes better understanding between an organization and the public . All types of organizations whether educational , social. political or government need to practice PR to meet their objectives and goals. The function of PR is to act as the communication link between the client and the public. The PR specialist has to present the client 's image in a way that infuses credibility and confidence in the public. PR professional is expected to be expert in the use of the media of communication. In communicating the right image of the client they have to use the media effectively. They research public attitudes and opinions and assist in the framing or reviewing of policy with the background of the result or findings of the research. After doing such task they handle communication of the policy to the public
. In the process of communication they have to keep in mind the message to be conveyed, the objectives for conveying it, the audience to be targeted and the medium through which the message will reach the target audience most effectively and precisely.They should have an exceptional ability to get along with people of all kinds, a lively and enquiring mind, self confidence ,adaptability , an open mind, ability to speak and write well , ability to persuade and convince,, enterprise and initiative , good news sense, sense of salesmanship, tact, a calm temperament, imagination, ability to communicate effectively in a given regional language and English and an unbiased approach. Familiarity with word processing, office and communication technology is of utmost importance. Public relation consultant must have the ability to understand people and what motivates them and have the ability to get on well with people from diffrent backgrounds. An aspirant keen of making a career in public relations can pursue a post graduate diploma in public relations or masters in mass communication after completing graduation in any stream
