A Chemical Engineer is the engineer who deals which every process associated with the manufacturing of a product, which starts right from the raw material to the quality control of a product being manufactured in a particular industry. In bookish language, we can define a Chemical Engineer as, “An engineer responsible for the Industrial Design and Manufacturing process right from converting a reactant into a product”.

ENTRANCE EXAM QUESTIONS

If we take a survey in any particular industry there will be a Chemical Engineer working in one of the departments in the role of Raw Material Supply In-Charge, Plant Safety Engineer, Process Engineer, Boiler Operator, Plant Head, Site Head, and many other roles. So, we can conclude that a Chemical Engineer is many times given the position of the highest responsibility and his job is to minimize the work hazards, reduce the risk, run the plant, etc.

From the above paragraph, we can conclude that being a Chemical Engineer is not a joke but comes with a lot of responsibilities. So it takes a lot of hard work, effort, patience, consistency, and various other important values to become a Chemical Engineer. Also, no career in this world comes with only advantages; a lot of disadvantages come with the job as well when you choose a career. So here are some Advantages and Disadvantages of pursuing a career in Chemical Engineering.

Pros Of Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineer

1. A career in Chemical Engineering is associated with every major and minor discipline of engineering. So if a Chemical Engineer wishes to pursue a career in any other field, he/she can do so very easily as compared to other engineers of any particular branch.

2. Chemical Engineering is a “Mother Branch” of almost 20-25 branches of engineering which means that a Chemical Engineer can pursue Undergraduate in Chemical Engineering and can pursue Graduate course in any other branch.

3.The job roles of a Chemical Engineer ranges right from Shop Floor to Working in an AC Cabin to Remote Working so a student has the freedom to choose his branch of engineering.

4. A Chemical Engineer can be a Businessman or a Manager to CEO, Auditor, and which gives a Chemical Engineer freedom to choose his work profile.

5. There are some subjects that can be taught to Chemical Engineers which gives a Chemical Engineer an upper hand.

Cons Of Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineer

A Chemical Engineer has long working hours due to direct involvement in Processing Job. Therefore many times, this leads to problems like fatigue, tension, stress, and various other problems.

If an accident occurs in the plant then the person at the maximum amount of risk is the Chemical Engineer as he is in very close proximity to places like Boiler, Exhaust, Pressure Gauge, Storage Facilities, Pump House, etc.

Despite meticulous efforts, if an incident occurs and there is some serious damage to the plant then the Chemical Engineer who is an Auditor, Safety Personnel, Process Engineer, or Design Engineer at the plant is held responsible.

The Chemical Engineering branch is a technologically developing branch and a Chemical Engineer needs to continuously learn as per the changing technology to cope up with the needs of the Industry.

The Chemical Engineer has to deal with a vast variety of subjects like Plant Safety, Processing, Design, Reaction Engineering, Piping, Fluid Flow, and various other vast variety of topics which brings a lot of stress and responsibility.
