The meaning of mental health is defined by WHO (World Health Organization), it is a state of individual well-being which realizes one’s own ability to cope up with the normal stress of life, and can work productively and efficiently. It is also called mental illness, which refers to a very wide range of mental health issues. Some disorders will affect your mood, your behaviour, and your process of thinking. There are examples of mental illness- anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, and addictive behaviours, which will be explained below.


Causes of mental health

There are so many causes for this problem people may have something which affected them deeply or has become some sort of fear in the mind. Given below are some causes-
Childhood abuse, trauma
Loneliness
Losing someone close to you
Severe long time stress
Drugs
Unemployment or losing your job
Poverty
Domestic violence
Getting bullied
And there are also some physical causes, like a head injury.

Types of mental illness

Personality disorders:
People who are facing personality disorders have extremely rigid personality traits. The person will cause problems at work full of social relationships. Example- paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder.

Psychotic disorders:
It involves distorted awareness and thinking. The most common symptoms of this disorder are hallucinating experiencing some image or sound which are not hearing of some voices and delusion which are and the ill person will accept it and think that it’s true and it’s happening in real life.

Mood disorders:
Mood disorder is called an affective disorder because it involves the feeling of sadness for feeling over happy or facing fluctuations from extreme happiness to extreme sadness. Mostly the common mood disorders are- cyclothymic disorder, depression, and bipolar disorder.
Anxiety disorders:
People who are facing anxiety disorders respond to certain situations for certain objects with fear as well as with some physical sign of anxiety or panic. The heartbeat gets Rapid and they start sweating. The anxiety disorder is diagnosed if a person is not responding appropriately to the situation. This disorder includes panic disorder-specific phobias, social anxiety disorder, and many more.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD):
In this disorder, a condition can be developed following traumatic or a terrifying event which happened such as some kind of an assault, unexpected death of the close one for any kind of natural disaster the people having PTSD have some kind of lightning thoughts memories of the event intend to get numb emotionally.

Symptoms of mental illness

Excessive fear or uneasiness:
The feeling of anxiety, getting afraid, panicked, or getting nervous.
Changes in sleep or appetite:
The changes in sleep more or less eating more than usual or very less gaining more weight or losing weight are the symptoms.

When a person is unable to express or solve problems with memory.
Mood changes:
Getting extremely sad or extremely happy for no reason. Laughing at inappropriate times, suicidal thoughts, etc.


Treatment

It is said that most mental illnesses are not curable but can be treated. The treatment for mental illness disorder occurs depending on the situation of an individual and the severity of the symptoms, the results can vary greatly on the individual level. Some mental illnesses will respond well to medications but there are some other conditions whose response is best to talk therapy. And also the treatment plans include a combination of treatment options and it will require some trial and failure before finding the right treatment which can work best for the person.

This therapy explores behaviour thoughts and also seeks if there is any improvement in individuals ‘ well-being. It is there with medication and said to be the most effective way to promote the recovery of a patient. There are a few more treatments like – Group therapy, Individual therapy, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient care, etc. You can look after your mental illness in some given ways – talk about your feelings, eat well, stay active, do something you’re good at, accept who you are, and many more.
