Working on your own can sometimes feel easier. It may be efficient because as a student you can work on the project in your own time, and you can control the entire process. There are some good reasons to be involved in the group. Read ahead to know some of the benefits of being part of a team or group.

1. You get a range of perspectives

Working with a group of people as a student enables you to look at a situation from different perspectives. You debate, discuss, and negotiate when you’re working with a group. You’re also forced to consider other people’s ideas. You should learn to hear others’ perspectives. Furthermore, you should also compare their perspectives with your own thinking. The point here isn’t to easily change your perspective, but to sharpen and widen it.

2. Improves Relationships among the Group

When students work together as a team, they not only become more invested in the project, they also get close to each other. Team members support each other and adapt to other’s working styles. This relationship can even further develop in the future. This leads to team members helping each other on assignments and sharing ideas or brainstorming, to propel each other to succeed in personal and professional goals. The feeling of being part of a team helps build morale and motivation.

3. Learn To Beat Conflict

Conflict in a group can actually be a good thing because one might have to face similar situations in future workplaces. By experiencing it in a controlled setting, one can learn how to improve their communication skills and the way they can resolve interpersonal issues more maturely.

Working in a group also allows students to develop a much better understanding of themselves and the way their teammates view them. By gaining constructive feedback from their peers and teammates, students get better equipped to gauge their social skills and behavior.

4. Deeper Understanding

Being able to debate & discuss the different approaches for solving a problem is all a part of group learning. Another part of group activities is that every student gets to learn and experience how other teammates learn. When you are in a group you learn how others would come up with solutions for the same problem that you would not have considered otherwise. It forces all those participating, to get their brain gears grinding. Observing how others react in a particular situation or while facing a problem can help a person to not only learn new ways to deal with it, but also gives them the confidence to face such situations later on.

5. Individual Accountability within a Group

You must think the con of being part of a group is a lack of individual accountability. Well, you’re quite wrong! Group activities can help students with handling peer pressure in a positive way.

When students get in a group, they naturally push one another to work harder. If being a part of a group activity pushes you to learn more or to achieve more, then you’re lucky to be a part of such a group.

6. Groups Inspire Confidence

It can be intimidating to raise your hand ask a question or have the teacher repeat something that you missed. You might feel that your question is stupid and therefore the idea of speaking it out loud is daunting. If you keep feeling this way, your confidence is not going to get better. It’s easier to be brave in a smaller group of people. Smaller groups have a more casual atmosphere, which makes students feel comfortable raising questions. Not only that but students tend to encourage one another when it’s a smaller, more intimate group. Work on building your confidence by being a part of a smaller group.

7. Working In Team Increases Morale And Motivation

“We’re facing this together!” This sentence describes all the advantages of working in a team. Also, it increases efficiency at work. People are social animals and despite the fact that some favor working alone, people mostly like working in groups and enjoy sharing experiences with others. We’re psychologically wired to feel better and work better in a team instead of alone.
