Dear Friend:

Your ambition for biological sciences seems to be prospective and calculative both, I appreciate you. Forget what you want to be remember what you want to do in your future your doing skill will make you more that what you want to be.
Irrespective of your academic background I would like to guide you in structural way as below:
1. A school pass out student who has scored high percentage in sciences/maths are supposed to be either in Intermediate Science with Math or Intermediate Sciences with Biology (Botany and Zoology with or without maths) This is the common stage for all science and technology engineers.

2. After 12th with Biology or Math you are again to go for UG level entry either in form of basic science students for bsc in botany/zoology/biotechnology or B.tech in biotech. This catagaroziation decides the fate of your future career.

These two studies take almost six years then you will be prepared as a fresh candidate for fresh entry in any industrial job in biotechnology.

3. Similarly after 12th you can go forpharmaceuticalsciences B.Pharma and then M.pharma which will enable you you for Pharma industries.

4. As you have given yourself five years incubation plan where you want to get education which will restrict you for graduation either in sciences or technology according to your merit and capability.

5. As far as job and position is concerned in biological sciences, with this degree and qualification you can not claim higherauthoritative position, the reasons are biology itself a long lasting study factor, rush time for degree holders, ratio between opportunity source and candidates.

6. In fact research experience in any industry or institutions at technician level or junior scientist level after graduation will bring you to the higher level which will be resulted into good salary and prestige in society.

7. Either you start doing job just after graduation or after three four years work experience or after getting higher degree there are certain logical differences in terms of appraisal and promotion. Therefore you are advised to pursue your higher degree in spite of being in job now a day many online part time educational institutions are available .

All the best for your study

Dear Aspirant, I apprecaite your question and aspiratation. You have written biologist, it means that you must be holding minimum a masters degree. A biologist could be a microbiologist, biotechnologist, biochemist, pharmacologist, botanist, zoologist.
Let me give you my example. I am also a biologist, I have done masters and doctoral degree in Microbiology. After completing my doctoral degree, I joined a research project (these are time bound projects), after that I joined as lecturer in a college. Just like you, I was having and still have a great desire to rise in my academic career. During my job of project and lecturer, I really worked hard, published many research papers, guided MSc students. This hard work got me a job of Microbiologist in Ministry of Agriculture in Kuwait. I spend a couple of of years and joind in India in a university.

In university, I am involved in academics, research and other management aspects. Though I am satisfied, but still I look myself at another better position after 1 or 2 years (you are talking about 5 years).

The meaning of my experience is that, if you have desire and dedication, you can acheive what you want. The field of biology is very rewarding and a person working hard, can fulfill his or her dreams.
My suggestion to you would be, if you are holding masters degree, then try to obtain a doctoral degree in your subject of choice and obviously it will be your MSc subject. The job opportunites after MSc is good but not that much good comapred to a doctoral degree. The reason is that in doctoral degree you learn to carry out research project. You learn how to write a thesis, how to write a research paper.

For a biologist, who wants to grow in his or her career, should take care the following points;
Be in teaching, to have good command over subject of interest
Should carry out research programs, so that you can publish very good research papers,
Should do good research work, so that students shoudl choose you as Mentor or advisor or supervisor,
If you are not in research, then u can write review articles and book chapters, this will increase your number of publications.
Try to make a good group of your scientifc (like minded people) circle, try to collaborate for research and other academic activities.
Definitely these points will keep you ahead in your career.

Good luck...
