Hello Student...

This is a very good questions which comes into everyone's mind who is related in any way to marketing filed. To start with I would like to introduce myself, I did my MBA from IIM shillong and we have some papers of marketing too. I am currently working in finance field but I can answer your query with my more than five years of working experience in private companies.

Coming to your query about marketing managers and their work are as mentioned below:

First is Marketing managers are having full freedom to do what ever they want as they will be travelling and all, but things are not like that they are having freedom but balanced only, on time basis regularly they need to update their superior about the work done or targets achieved.

Second is if you hired a marketing managers, you will get positive results overnight. that is immediately you will get business, this is completely myth as the manager will need some time to analyse and understand the company strategy, market conditions, business opportunities and than only he can plan to move ahead and get some business for the company.

Third is If you have marketing manger no need to hire any other sales person, a manger cannot do everything alone, he/she needs someone to assist and help to focus well in improving business.

Fourth is targets are always there for marketing managers, that is a myth some marketing managers do not have targets but have some fixed clients to handle and work with them, if allowed to bring some new clients, generally big companies.

Fifth is Marketing manager is they think they know everything about sales, they are expert but they may not be knowing everything as it is not possible to know everything.

Sixth is as a marketing manager to work with start up is risky, it is a myth I think as a manger in start ups you can learn more, freedom is more and growth opportunities will be high which will help you in future.

Seventh is they need to work more than eighty hours a week as they have to show results and time is not a constant for salary and incentives its the results.

Hope all above clarifications answered your query very well
Thank you.
