Dear Aspirant, thank you for your question. In fact you have asked a very practical question. Here you have not mentioned your question. The salary structure of a food technologist depends upon the qualifications of the person, number of years of experience and where a food technologist wants to work, whether in government sector or private sector. In government sector the the job opportunities will be in colleges, institutes and universities, in private sector there are multinational companies and private companies.

Food Technologists

Now a days there are many private colleges, institutes and universities, they induct the person but the salary structure (in hand) is much less compared to a government organization.

The basic qualification for a food technologist is BTech, but not eligible to get entry into academic or research field. To make an entry into academic or research field, one should have a MTech or doctoral degree of Food Technology in hand. The perosn will be inducted as Lecturer, Assistant Professor or Assistant Scientist. The salary will be Rs. 15600-37100 with Average grade pay (AGP) of Rs. 5400 per month. This salary will increase with experience and promotion. After eight years the person will be Associate Professor and the salary structure will be 37400-67000 + AGP of Rs 9000, while in case of a Professor the AGP is Rs 10,000. Same salary structure goes for scientists in research institutes.

IN private colleges, universities and institutes, the salary is much less, on paper the food technologist receive a good amount of salary but in hand it is much less.

A food technologist as MTech can also work i government sector but in research projects, here he or she gets a fixed amount of salary for example Rs. 18,000 for first two years along with HRA (depends upon the type of city) and in third year Rs. 21,000. It also depends upon project to project.

IN multinational company, a food technologist may get a salary of Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 per month. But in national private companies the salary structure will be much less. It will be around Rs. 50,000 for MTech and Rs. 70,000 for PhD person. The reason is obvious, it depends upon the growth and earning of the company.
Food Technologists

At this point my suggestion will be you should increase your qualification to a doctoral level and gain some technical or relevant experience required. Believe me, you will get job of your choice just concentrate on gaining qualifications and academic as well as technical experience and trainings.

With all my best wishes, I wish you very good Luck...
