This is a very common dilemma and confusion among students and parents as well. I can surely understand and therefore very happy to see you approach CareerGuide.com for good and informed and expert guidance and help. You will be an ideal candidate to undergo an psychometric assessment from CareerGuide.com. A self psychometric test kit is also available here which you can purchase and conduct the test yourself at your home.

Doing this test is very essential since this test will clearly show you what you are capable of, what are your likings and which career will suit you the best so that you need not to get worried or frustrated later by choosing a wrong career. To tell you in general that which career will be good, it depends on your choice entirely. If you are good in maths, biology, physics, chemistry, etc. then you can choose Science field. Here you should have the liking for these subjects and not just because you have mugged up the things and scored well in SSC.

In science field there are many careers to do after HSC like Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine, etc. Choose science only if you are pretty sure that you like science, calculations, laboratories, experiments, etc. If you are good in subjects like history, geography, languages etc. then Arts field is good for you.

If you like subjects like civics, economics, a little bit of maths, then commerce field is good for you. In commerce too there are numerous career fields like Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretaryship, Cost Accountancy, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), MBA, etc. Commerce field is very dynamic and evergreen and Science field is full of experiments and calculations. Arts field is very theoritical, descriptive but very interesting too.

Therefore based on the above parameters I would strongly suggest you not to get confused but to get focused and do your assessment to get a better idea of what you are. Anybody who does a career based on his / her liking, capability and hard work can succeed surely and make a place for himself / herself in the society. Wish you best luck.

Dear aspirant

I am glad you approached counsellors at Mera career guide at the right time. I should appreciate you for one fact that you are caring and responsible towards your future career. As a counsellor i have come across with lots of students who blindly choose a group at 11th and later struggle. There are also students who believe what ever they hear and accordingly decide on the group at 11th class to study and both are utterly wrong. As an individual you are going to survive in this world and what ever comes as a package of plus and minus with your chosen career, you are the only one who is going to deal with it. So why take unnecessary issues later in life and instead being cautious right now will save you from any risk failures.

I can see one of our counsellors has given you a broad picture on the career but i am following up with it to narrow you down to a suitable focal point. First of all i suggest you to consider taking the psychometric assessment test that is available on this mera career website. Taking the test will help you understand more, and you will know your personality type in depth and the suitable career routes you can wish to pursue with the type of your personality. Being confused with subject choice is common for you students at this stage because you people have less inner clarity on what you personally like and what will suit you. To answer this the psychometric test will be highly beneficial.

Next correlate your answers with Psychometric test and the subjects available for you to study. See if the test recommends you to study commerce or science. Accordingly sign up for the related group. Next, i also want you to warn you on the considerable demand levels between these two groups. I have seen lots of students who take science group blindly and later struggle in coping with the subject. There are students who change groups in mid year too and you will be in more troublesome to get adjusted with the new class, and also pick up with the subjects that were already taught in your absence. So dont put yourself in such situations. A science group is highly demanding with time and commitment where as a commerce group is not that very demanding. People choose science group for two main reasons and that is to study either Medicine or Engineering where as with a commerce background at school you cant do both. So ask yourself if you want either of medicine or Engineering careers. Alternatively there are other life sciences route that you may take with a science group like Bsc Biology, chemistry, maths, botany, sociology, psychology, biotechnology, physics, English and many more. you also have options with choosing pharmacy too. See yourself if you like to study and enter either of the above routes, else consider the options given by our Counsellor Anand here on commerce subject and related career. See what interests you and what suits you and accordingly study the course. This is your life, your education and you are the one who is going to run after your aim and make sure you have the right courses on the right path to achieve success. Best wishes to you.
